I see a few major problems with this.

1. It looks like it was shot 1080p 24fps but then slowed down. If you slow down 24fps then it will get very jumpy, and thats what it looks like. 60fps slowed to 24fps looks natural and beautiful. If you are going for the slow motion look, then I would highly suggest shooting 720p60fps with the hack and then slowing it down to 24fps in post-production. (40% playback will do it)

2. Shutter speed looks too low. This contributes to the severe blur/unfocused image/look we noticed.

Can you please give us more details on the settings you used? Are you game for doing another test at 720p 60fps? Also make sure that you shoot progressive and render progressive. No field changing!

Hope this helps!

Err... why did you apply so much post!? You applied some kinda post stabilization, and it looks awful!
Also, your panning with a very low shutter speed which makes everything "stutter".
If you want to show off this bit rate, use a tripod/monopod.... or just dont pan so quickly.

I was shooting at 1080 24fps with a shutter of 60. And your right, i used a post image stabilization. what do you recommend? i'll re-shoot and post with 720p60fps

I mean, it's kinda obvious that if you want to show the quality of a setting in the camera, you need to show the RAW footage. Don't do ANY post (no stabilization, no color correction...) Title your shots with the settings you used. Pan only if you want to show a motion related feature...)

What film school are you at?

Let's just say it's a big one and the focus is on shooting with film so I'm new to DSLR shooting. But I came here to learn. I made the video from my balcony as soon as i updated my cam without thinking about all of the variables but that's not an excuse. However, as I said in the replies above, I will re-shoot with different settings and post the results asap and thank you for your suggestions.

can i upload .m2ts files to youtube?

Here's another test shot done at higher shutter speeds with no post and uploaded directly to youtube. Does anyone know why vegas converts the files from 23.97 to 25p when you upload to youtube?

My $0.02.

First, if you're interested in narrative work as opposed to FX-rich music videos, I'd suggest you shoot at the lowest ISO possible, preferably 160; shoot at 1080/24P, and set the "shutter" to 50. This closely mimics the traditional film camera setting. You want the motion blur in the images, that's what film looks like. High shutter speeds give a strobe effect. If that's what you want, great, and in particular if you're going to using Twixtor or other such programs. But high shutter speeds with no blur screams "VIDEO" and "DIGITAL". I'd suggest you use the Smooth setting, with Contrast at -2, Sharpness at -2, Saturation at 0, and Noise Reduction at -2. If there's too much light, either stop down or use an ND filter, avoid high shutter speeds.

As for pans, slow and smooth but always well framed.

Just some notions you might want to consider.

Edit: Your video has been blocked because you used copyrighted music on your video. I suggest using something more obscure or just not putting any music to your test video...

Vegas does not do what you are describing. Whatever settings you use when rendering out of Vegas are crucial. If you render out at 23.97fps then your video will display at that frame rate. Same for 30fps, so forth. Vegas not does not 'automatically convert to 25fps'... Youtube performs its own compression, but it does not alter your framerate.

What settings are you using out of Vegas? I use Vegas Pro 10 myself, and I can tell you that what you render at is clutch! Here is what I use for Youtube...

Type - Sony AVC
Frame size - 1280x720 (or the original resolution of your files, ie: 1080 instead of 720)
Profile: baseline
Entropy coding: VAVLC
Frame rate: 23.976 (always)
Field order: none (progressive scan) <--- I never shoot interlaced. This is different if you do.
Pixel aspect ratio: 1.0
Bitrate: 10,000,000 (a bit excessive, but I like giving youtube/vimeo plenty of info to start with)

Audio format: AAC stereo
Sample rate: 48,000
Bitrate: 192,000

I have a question for you... In your project settings, you need to make sure you match your settings with the actual settings of your clip...

File -> Properties -> At the top of the window there is the template area, and to the far right of it (to the right of the red X) is a match clip button. Click it, and select one of your video files. Vegas will automatically adjust the project properties to the optimal settings based on your clip. Very helpful.

Then make sure that 'full resolution rendering quality' is on PREVIEW. This is CRUCIAL!!!!

Vegas will apply blending/blurring if you put it on 'best'. Some people like it, I HATE it.

Another question... Did you try rendering using the settings I listed above for the Sony AVC setting?

thanks HotConductor. i tried your settings above but with a 16,000,000 bitrate. here is the video.

@admmada i'm using bwhitz version of kae's patch witch is pretty stable and 1080p at 50MBit.
