As for features "hidden up our sleeves," don't be spoiling my fun. Of course there's more to the camera, but I'm not going to indicate what.

It's the name, ins't it. "EVA" is just a decoy name, it's just too short and not letter and action packed enough to do the camera justice. The actual name will be revealed closer to release, after Pana consults with RED and draws upon their immense experience in the awesome nomenclature department. Stay tuned for the "Panasonic Antares® Titan Supernova 5.7K..with Blackjack..and hookers*"

*Proprietary hookers. Four times the price of market rate hookers and kind of slow.

Mitch.

Just got back from our ultrasound to find out we are having a girl. If we name her EVA can we get a camera for free?

I think the name EVA is the most appealing thing about this camera.

I fly EVA to Thailand a lot. After my wife and I disagreed on the proper pronunciation to the airlines, I finally had to ask them how they pronounced it. They said, Eee, Vee, Aae. Thats my main concern with this new wonder camera, screw the codecs, and the dual ISO, how the hell do you pronounce EVA? A decision as to wether I buy this camera or a C200 depends entirely on Mitch's answer, and Im sure I speak for the majority here on this forum.

I'm going to say Eee-Vee-Ayy One, but you are free to call it Ee-Vah One or Eh-Vah One. Whatever floats your boat. My old French film camera had a different name depending on your accept. Aaron was Ay-Tun, Ahh-Ton, Eh-Tun, and so on. Must have heard a dozen variations. At least EVA1 won't be misspelled as often as the Odyssey7Q+. I understand the issues when translating from foreign languages and sometimes even different alphabets, but it that one could get absurd.

I think they should re-name this thing POTUS. lots of subtle hints of majestic imagery and raw power!

This is brilliant Mitch! The names are as flexible as the codecs!

Sony, Panasonic or Canon all appear in this price segment and they will provide about as good images. What separates them are their respective brand features and image trade. Could one say one or the other is better? No just different and they suits different users.

As I see it Sony has all the technology, just not yet fully implemented, but also makes things a bit cumbersome to operate. Canon is a solid one but they always holds back on specs and finally Panasonic makes it more affordable than the others.

If Canon did what Sony does in not holding back I'd go for Canon any day.

During these last ten years I've used more Panasonic cameras than I can count. Also seven Canon cameras and seven Sony cameras regularly. The way it has worked for me is I've never felt Panasonic took off when it came to image quality. I've also experienced a few problems that needed service. Canon has always played nice and been easy to get the good stuff. And finally during the years Sony cameras have popped up more and more with a good balance between image quality and features.

I'm I Sony biased then? Well they've provided me with what I need in a camera over the years and financially been good. Not to mention all my clients really liked what my F3 and FS7 have provided them.

If this ends up with 14 stops of dynamic range and the ability to output 100fps in short bursts through the sdi port (without cropping the sensor) I will 100% buy this camera....Mitch I hope this is possible!

So if I remember correctly isn't today a hands on test day at a few locations in LA?? Will we be getting some more specs/tests footage?

Yes, the camera that was shown isn't final yet. I should know. I was holding the top handle and then put my other hand on the side grip. Was told afterwards to be careful because the side grip isn't ready yet. Luckily I was also holding the top handle as well or who knows what would have happened.

it won't use AF-100 batteries it will use the same batteries the DVX200 uses. The AF-100 used the VW-VBG batteries the DVX200 used the AG-VBR which is an updated version of the classic Panasonic batteries from the HVX, etc. From what I can tell They are no longer making the AF-100/ HMC series camera batteries

I think the message is pretty clear from Panasonic. M43 handheld pro cameras are a dead issue, at least for now. If you want M43, you are buying a GH5.

It's what the non-M43 market wants, so why not give them what they want.

If I buy the EVA1 I won't sell my GH5 cameras, as they will still be useful for lots of things.

Love the size and weight, very handy. As a cinematographer who travels a lot, small and light are really important to my work.

It does look like an FS5 and DVX200 had a baby. I come from broadcast so I still really like big, full-size ENG-style bodies, but these little cameras are wonderful. You can make a little camera big, not so much the other way around. I can already get a sense of the accessories Wooden Camera and Zacuto will be offering up at launch this fall.

My friend was at Cinegear and held the EVA1. It's really small, FS5-sized.

That's a little camera. lol That dude's hands are bigger than mine but I know how big SD card slots and XLRs are, so EVA1 is going to seem a little bigger to me than it would be for this guy. But, it's still teeny-tiny compared to other cameras.

Also, I like how recently these little cameras have started doing what the bigger digital cinema cameras have been doing for years, emulating the film cameras with these I/O ports on the dumb side at an angle so they 1. are easier to get to, 2. don't get in the way of the back where you'd load film or change batteries, 3. make wrangling cables easier. It's also part of the language of the camera that says it's made for cinema. Even at this stage, without seeing footage or knowing the complete shipping specs, "Eva One" still looks just about right.

Right. Over on the DVX200 side this question was asked and Barry Green came in and said "nope", they're (read: the old DVX100, HVX200, or AF100 batteries) incompatible. For my DVX200 I have one of the new AG-VBR118G 86Wh 11,800mAh batteries and two of the older VW-VBD58 5,800mAh ones, and I can shoot all day with the big one and finish with one of the small ones. The new VBR series will quick charge on a AG-BRD50, which is very handy.

Thanks, that explains why there's no product images from the grip side. I suspected it wasn't finished and so it appears.
