The problem with the thread and the "leakage" (wait until there's shrinkage on top of leakage) is that it's done via the official channels. When, GH5 was shown, Panasonic said, "Here are some specs. The rest later". And then it shut up, so any possible discussions of "GH5 coming in 2016" were done without its participation on the various internet sites, including this one.Regarding the comments about 12V vs 7,4V and doing things the best possible way for signal processing - Mitch is correct about vocalizations coming out the wrong body orifice...
That's why the best cameras from Arri, RED, Sony and Panasonic uses higher voltage. To do processing, among other things, in the best possible way. A 7,2V camera is so consumer.
....In other words, let potential consumers have their fantasies but don't aid and abet them by the officially sanctioned commentaries (or lack thereof).
Except that's not what I said.I think I am thankful to have a Panasonic rep actively engaging with the community, and I resent the notion of your comment which implies this is a bad thing because professional adults can't respect an engaged representative who can't reveal certain specs...
And that begins the cat&mouse game. On a random fan site, there's no imprimatur of the "insider".People can fantasize, but when a statement is made that is false, has no basis in fact, and implies to a wide audience that there are shortcomings in a design, it has to be corrected.
Sorry i dont know. Canon has a cine zoom lenses with AF thats perfect for what you want.If I've understood correctly there's just one lens that works with PZ-E1 zoom adapter, the 18-135 USM Nano Lens, but the results in the video are very problematic. Do you know some other solutions?
Where I see Panasonic has an amazing opportunity with EVA1 is a multi tiered ecosystem. We now have the option of a professional camera that matches extremely well to the picture quality of the GH5. This allows a crew to show up to a job with a $8,000 camera and a $2,000 B camera and get equally good material. Try doing that with Canon. You can't so stop pretending. The Canon DSLRs will never touch the C class Canon cameras. If you shoot with a c200 and need to do a multi-camera shoot guess what you will want to get your hands on more c200s.
With EVA1 as long as the lighting is not crap and you are not trying to shoot in the most extreme sunlight contrast situations the GH5 will do just as good and heck even a used GH4 (or lesser 4k m43 camera) will do well to match with the EVA1. That is a huge position for Panasonic and shooters to be in. The fact that a company with a EVA1 can hire a freelance shooter with a GH5 to shoot b roll or second camera is a pretty significant advantage for Panasonic right now. Especially considering the 400mbps 10bit 4:2:2 recording formats will be equally robust between the two cameras or if you absolutely must you can get 10bit external. To this day no other DSLR offers 10bit external output which even the GH4 provides.
If I'm producing a live switched event I would much rather do so with a EVA1, GH5 and GH4 so I can keep the switched master 10bit 4:2:2 all the way. Again try doing that with any other camera system. Canon? LOL. Sony? Much closer but none of their non cinema cameras provide 10bit output either. If you say 10bit doesn't matter then why on earth do you even care about a cinema camera? This ecosystem doesn't even end here and can go all the way up to the Varicam cameras. Having a G85 crash cam on a Varicam production that actually matches the look and 4k is a much better solution than a crappy aliased and moire filled Canon DSLR with a C200 or C300.
The other significant advantage to this ecosystem Panasonic has created is you can be a GH5 shooter with a SpeedBooster and EF lenses and go out and rent a EVA1 as needed when the production calls for it. You can invest in the GH5 and SpeedBooster now and build up smaller clients/productions and eventually move towards a EVA1 with little to no learning curve or equipment change. The quality and V-log post workflow will be almost identical. Again this is huge and currently no other manufacturer has this ability. BMD has a wide range of cameras but the smaller cameras suffer from a lot of quality compromises like resolution and sensor size. If you need a URSA Pro 4.6k on a production why on earth would you settle for a 2k Micro camera for b roll?
Panasonic should really adopt this concept in their marketing and promote the stellar ecosystem they built. That can have a lot of value add to companies that can't afford to buy three or four EVA1 class cameras and hire a wide range of shooters. Treat the GH5 as the gateway drug to higher end shooting with the EVA1 or Varicam. Thats what I would do and thats what companies like apple do. They build an ecosystem which is what draws people in and makes it hard for them to leave.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but for Canon...one could buy a C200 or C300 and use a base C100 with Ninja as it's back up. A base C100 is now almost as inexpensive as the GH5.

How do we know the color science on the GH5 is very easily matched to the Varicam cameras? WHo has tested this? Anything on YouTube or Vimeo? How do we know the GH5 will easily be matched to the EVA1? My only experience was trying to cut the GH4 with a 2700 Varicam and the two cameras wouldn't have been farther apart in color science.
HD only then yes you are fine. If you want/need 4k then nope not an option at all which was my entire point. In the 4k realm Panasonic is the only one with all the bases covered and you can even get a half way decent 4k camera for $500 to use as a crash camera. Sure maybe not as good as the Gh5 and missing a lot of things like 10bit and V-log but still a much closer match then trying to match HD or wannabe HD to 4k. Plus you are talking about buying a now five year old c100 to match a brand new c200. Sensor technology changes with each generation and a c100 from five years ago doesn't match a new c200 anymore than a GH4 matches a Varicam.
I'll bet you the C100 sensor and color matches the C300/200 better than the GH5 will match the Varicam color science of the EVA1. You're right about 4K of course. I was strictly speaking to having a matching system. I like Panasonic's direction more than Canon as well, but I'm not sure the GH5 will turn out to be such a great match for the EVA1, given the sensor differences, the color differences, the ISO differences, etc. Sure, 4k.....yep.
