With media costs of $1,000 per hour of recorded footage in 10-bit and $1,500 per hour in 12-bit ?

All things come at a price. You want raw you pay for it. You don't, then go SD card 4:2:2. Its a choice dingo. I know which way I'm leaning and I know which way you are.

Polly want a cracker? You stated that many times. Ya know,,,,, You can rent Cfast cards and make the client pay for it. I mean, I own cameras and every time I shoot, I have a line item included for the rental of that gear, which I own.

Meaning..real world user feedback on units in field...

I, for one, was impressed by what The Mitch and Co. are promising. If they can deliver all that they promised, it looks like a game changer at it's price point. I think they are aiming this slightly more at the indie filmmaker than Canon is aiming the C200 at. 5.7K will look great and I am kind of in love with the Varicam color science, I like it as much as Canon's color science. It is a fact of the marketplace that companies have to do these slow rollouts as we live in the era of JIT delivery of everything in the supply chain and their marketing department thinks that they have to stay in the conversation to stay relevant and to build the hype. 400 Mbps internal is impressive, the RAW output feels like a better option for the few that might want to use it, rather than doing it in camera.

There was no EVF shown, which is not that big of a deal for this type of camera, those who want one will have to buy one separately or perhaps they have one but it wasn't ready? No mention of any other media slots other than the two SD slots. I would count on no AF or rudimentary AF, or I think it would have been mentioned. The Varicam LT doesn't have any AF and nobody seems to care on a more cinema oriented camera. I was disappointed with the promise of only 2/4/6 stop ND, this camera will definitely need extended ND like the Canons and Sonys since it will be dual ISO. I loved the 4K output of both HDMI and SDI, that's great. IR is an interesting option. Overall, impressive specs and Panasonic will deliver, they rarely make empty promises. V-Log and V-Gamut are positive directions. It will have to meet or beat the GH5 specs to make sense. Tough decision now for many of us, order a C200 or wait and buy the EVA1? Even from this little preview, they both seem to have their pluses and minuses in all areas. I wish Panasonic could license DPAF from Canon to put in this but I know that cannot happen.
Great post...and you're right this camera, producing an image close to the Varicam, could truly shoot a feature in 4K RAW to an external recorder with a FW upgrade in the future...if this camera delivers it will mimic the Varicam LT again in the sense that Panny's price points for these offerings, they blow by the competition...curious where the dual ISO will come in, or is it 800 & 5000, the same as the other 2 Cine cams

I would be looking for externally recorded RAW that can use inexpensive off-the-shelf SSD drives. ( SD cards are fine for non-RAW internal recording )

The last thing anyone really wants is to add another level of anxiety when shooting and aside the added cost, adding an external recorder does that. The quality of internal recording cameras at an affordable price makes external recording a nauseous proposition for me . To each his own. Good luck.

Well, they haven't revealed the exact dual ISO numbers yet. But the Varicam and LT have been killing it in terms of low light performance with their 800/5000 ISO dual native sensor. The fact that this EVA1 has a dual native sensor is an extremely interesting factor.

I would imagine if they can implement the same ISO, they will....it's simply a tremendous feature and Panasonic seems not to be hobbling this camera, but going all out!

I'm not a Blackmagic fan at all. But apart from the ISO features, what does this camera have over the latest Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K? If I'm not wrong the Ursa also works out to a bit cheaper. Although I don't really know as I don't follow Blackmagic.

Perhaps in my mind one of the most important aspects in any camera...I get my 7th Panasonic camera this Tuesday and not a single one has failed once, regardless of conditions or how long or short the shoot...mine work flawlessly!

Until they make affordable Terabyte CF cards, Raw is impracticable for most shooting. Especially with one CF slot forcing you to stop recording every 15 minutes just to swap cards.

To be fair, 128GB CFast cards are already outdated, you would use 256GB cards for 30 minutes of run time. For those of us used to shooting film, 15 minutes is a luxury ;-)

I second that. I would much prefer built in RAW options like those found in C200 and RED cameras, rather than 3rd party raw recorders that get their signal over an SDI cable as in the Odyssey / Atomos solutions. If you want RAW, clearly the C200 seems like the more attractive solution. The only thing that might change me over to the this EVA panasonic, is if image quality and DR EXCEEDS that of the C200. But the C200 has the same chip as the C300 II, some say the same chip as the C700. That's a tough benchmark to beat. Going to RAW, you get all of that same goodness.
We'll just have to wait and see with testing between the two cameras, which camera's IQ wins out.

"IF" they get delayed on this camera, by any measurable amount, it will be suicide. I think about the brand Panasonic over others because of track record and the ability to make a solid product.

Maybe true for you, but in general - I don't know. Certainly not true for me. I mean, there is no way I'd say to myself, hey, go buy the Canon, because I don't want to wait another week, month, 3 months for the Panasonic. That's crazy. Rent what you need to meanwhile, but for a purchase, I'd like to see all options on the table and I'm willing to wait a bit for everyone to come out with the product - and we're not talking here like 6 months or a year. Late by 2-3 months, no biggie. IMHO, YMMV.
Same for me....if I decide to buy this camera, I'm not impatient for a deadline...in fact I want to see it up and running and out there , before I'd get one...

Could you use a CFAST to SSD breakout box with the C200 ? ( even if you had to modify the card-slot door, it might be worth it )

I've been shooting with the Ninja Blade on a C100/300 for years, it's not bad. What bugs me though is having to buy a 7" big heavy Shogun Inferno for 4K. You stick two batteries on the back, pop in an SSD and you have totally upset the balance and accessibility of the camera, 7" sucks for on camera monitoring. If Atomos would make a 4K version of the Ninja Blade with a higher resolution screen, that would rock. I too prefer to NOT use an external recorder but for green screen, it's better than the C100/300 codecs.

I never thought one would come with it...

It is a little surprising, but REDs don't come with an EVF, Alexa Mini, it's a $1,500.00 option on the URSA Mini Pro so there is precedence that a cinema camera NOT come with an EVF. I use a Zacuto EVF Pro on my C100 and it is surprisingly effective. The Graticals look a lot better but would cost me four or five times the price. They aren't four or five times better than the economical EVF Pro, maybe twice as good. I got it from Zacuto as a demo for $400.00, it would be a good option for the EVA or the C200 when shooting shoulder mounted.
