"IF" they get delayed on this camera, by any measurable amount, it will be suicide. I think about the brand Panasonic over others because of track record and the ability to make a solid product.

Maybe true for you, but in general - I don't know. Certainly not true for me. I mean, there is no way I'd say to myself, hey, go buy the Canon, because I don't want to wait another week, month, 3 months for the Panasonic. That's crazy. Rent what you need to meanwhile, but for a purchase, I'd like to see all options on the table and I'm willing to wait a bit for everyone to come out with the product - and we're not talking here like 6 months or a year. Late by 2-3 months, no biggie. IMHO, YMMV.

I'm not a Blackmagic fan at all. But apart from the ISO features, what does this camera have over the latest Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K? If I'm not wrong the Ursa also works out to a bit cheaper. Although I don't really know as I don't follow Blackmagic.

You can say that about any camera. What sub $10K camera offers internal uncompressed raw, compressed raw, 12bit 4:4:4 & 10bit 4:2:2 prores, up to 60p in all recording formats, and up to 120p in 2K?

But Blackmagic has a reputation for quality issues (the Pro seems solid, but it's only been out for a few months so we'll see). It's scary to think of spending $6k on a camera and $2k on accessories just have quality control issues ruin your shoots.

Camera does sound compelling. Ability to have a 4K signal coming out in both HDMI and SDI is excellent.

Hopefully there are going to be additional SDI for an EVF and/or external monitor apart from a recorder. Timecode in and out - very happy about that. Hopefully it will have all manner of 1080p framerates, as well as interlaced and PSF for legacy broadcast needs. Hoping it will have a proper base that is flat, no homage de Henry Moore like the EX3 and ensure the HVA1 has all manner of threaded mounting holes on the bottom for both ENG and cinema tripods and plates.

Little stuff like this can make or break a camera and fortunately Mr. Gross will be quite involved in the process so all that stuff should be rolled into the camera.

I do wish the lens mount was exchangable to either PL or a positive lock Nikon mount or Sony E-Mount. I can understand the push towards going after the market that is loaded up with Canon lenses but there's the rest of us who haven't gone down the Canon route but have a load of really good lenses with other mounting systems.

It was the lack of concrete announcement.
It was never intended to be a fully "concrete" announcement. It was intended to be a "preview".

They can't state what dual ISO levels there will be. Meaning, they haven't gotten to that point of development.
You do not know the reasons why they didn't announce that. You are assuming.

No mention of AF capability. Meaning, they haven't gotten to the point of development.
You are once again assuming. You don't know what there will or won't be, in the way of autofocus capability. As I have said repeatedly, there was a good chance that not "all" would be revealed, and it looks like I was right.

I didn't hear anything about audio quality ( which is the easy part).
Why didn't you assume on audio then? I mean, even the cheapest Panasonic has 48khz 16-bit stereo, so we can assume it'll be at least that good, can we not?

All I heard was marketing keywords.
Perhaps we have a case of mismatched expectations. You were apparently expecting more to be released than they were expecting to release. They did exactly what they've done before, with the HVX200 and other cameras -- a teaser, then a preview, and then later down the line more final specifications will be revealed. This is how they work, this is how they always have done it.

One word of caution to them though (Barry). "IF" they get delayed on this camera, by any measurable amount, it will be suicide.
Does Panasonic have a track record of missing their deadlines? I would say that's one thing you can count on -- they will release it in "the fall". That could mean as early as September 21, or as late as December 21, but they will make their promised deadline.

They teased us with the blankie picture for how long?
Six weeks. May seem like six years, but it wasn't, it was only a few weeks ago.

And this is the reveal?
No. This is the Preview. You can look forward to a more detailed reveal closer to the ship date.

Yeah, it kinda smacks of desperation to announce a camera so far away from actual production/drop date. Of course we know Panasonic is desperate.

This is WAY MORE info than the GH5 roll-out, where all we got was 4 bullet-points of text at Photokina 2016 in September 2016, and then 6 months later they were shipping the actual cameras.

I can't believe how impatient a lot of you are. Jebus.

The sensor and the electronics package are not finalized, so if they release sub-par footage because of this people would crap all over it.

[cough cough] DVX200 [cough cough]

I mean, I love my DVX, but it took a beating when it was announced because of the pre-production footage that was released. And the fact they didn't get the colors right until the 1.52(?) firmware didn't help. I'm thinking Panasonic is still smarting over that one.

Tuned in a bit late, does it have an eye piece/EVF? I didn't catch that portion or see anything that showed it having one.

All in all, quite interesting. It's a difficult decision between this and the C200 for me as I'm more event work oriented.

Haven't been able to find information regarding this. I guess it doesn't come with one?

Yes there is image stabilization.

* For certain values of image stabilization.

Here's the dirty secret of EIS as implemented by everyone so far (that I've seen), from smartphones to the GH5 and in between: it sucks. Usually badly. Some worse than others, but I've never seen it do anything less than damage the footage, usually irreparably. It turns the image into a watery mess whose only solution is turning it the hell OFF and reshooting.

It shouldn't even be called EIS - it should be called what it effectively is: badly-done in-camera warp stabilizer. If Panasonic has come up with a way to do it right (which nobody yet has, including in Panny's own GH5), then more power to them. But actual physical image stabilization (IBIS or in lens IS) it absolutely is NOT, and until someone demonstrates otherwise, to claim so only means that someone has a camera they'd like to sell you (whether that camera is amazing in every other way is beside the point of this post).

Just turn it the hell off and use actual warp stabilizer products in post; you'll be much happer.

Also, buy a gimbal stabilizer. :)

I explained long ago why there most likely wouldn't be footage.

Sorry , but this sort of drips and drabs approach rarely works nowadays.

Announce it when its ready to show in a production or at least pre-pro model. WITH FOOTAGE. The price in the UK will be close to 8,000 GBP inc VAT probably even more.

For this money I can buy an FS7.

Say what you will about Canon, but they have 1 - a fully functioning pre-pro models all over the UK. 2 - Footage shot with the C200. 3 - FULL SPEC SHEET - 4. REALISTIC And CONCRETE Time for delivery - August.

Short , sweet to the point - that's how you present a camera in 2017. This isn't 2010. If you expect me to give you 8 grand or whathever amount under > I am sure it wont be less than 7500, I'd at least expect to see footage.

Corporate lingo live - preview, pre-release, pre-launch is too vague and does not inspire confidence at all. RED had so many problems promising and announcing stuff before it was ready, but they learned their lesson - dont announce anything before it is absolutely ready to go.

From Mitch's responses in the two first look videos - Newshooters and the Cinema5D one - I am not convinced at all that the EVA 1 will have any form of working AF that is anywhere near as close to that of your competitors- mainly Canon (whose DPAF is light years ahead of both Panasonic and Sony). Until you prove me wrong with actual hard evidence - as in footage from the camera, I'll gladly spend my money elsewhere.

Basically it was a second teaser and the trailer is coming because the film is still in production is the way I see it.

I'd like to know the cost of a few things. Since with all the storms we've had. I more than likely have to put a new roof on my sisters house or steal the roofing materials from my remodel of my farm house on the same property.

Sony has already put the FS5 on sale with a $1000 mail in rebate which will buy an atmos and still be way under 8k, along with a free metabones ef adaptor and 0% financing for 24 months, for Panasonic to compete this camera needs to be at $6k.The Canon C200 has AF, and color, at the same price Canon will win especially if canon includes the XF AVC codec as promised, unless 240fps in 2k is important to a buyer.

That may also just indicate the pre-NAB-rumored FS5II is coming and they're clearing out stock. More competition is better. :)
