There's very little about this "C200" that make me want it more than an Ursa Mini Pro. So, that settles that for now.

I'm here for the Panasonic mystery camera. The "C200" was a brief diversion, but I'm not interested. Let's see what happens Friday at Cine Gear Expo.

I am hoping the Varicam "Mini" will at least give me 4K/30 uncompressed out of a professional connector(SDI) so I can use an external recorder...

Back to the Panasonic camera, what can it have that will make you buy it over the C200? We know it won't have the killer DPAF but perhaps it will have internal non-RAW 10 bit 4:2:2?

for me it'd be:

- image stabilization
- power for zoom lenses
- variety of internal codecs including 422 10-bit (but that's a given after the gh5)
- high native iso, good low light, graceful highlight rolloff, 13+ stops of dr, full vLOG
- modern software/ui with scopes, tracking AF, punch in focus, programmable focus ramping, adjustable overlays, lots of tweakable image settings (e.g. curves)
- bluetooth & wifi
- all that at a significantly lower price (< €6000)

naturally it's still be interesting with less featueres, but cheaper (no power for lenses, old & sparse UI, no networking)

for the same price as the canon it'd have to offer comparable features to the varicam lt (dual iso, raw out, 240 fps slomo), which i don't think is going to happen - and even then it'd probably be out of my price range and i'd wait for the price on the canon to drop (or buy a blackmagic - but i recently used the ursa mini and did not like it's weight and handling - but great pictures)

Not sure about our other presentations (Panasonic has three this CineGear), but the New Camera Preview will stream using Facebook Live from our Facebook page, Panasonic Pro Video. I believe several of our sister accounts such as the European group will also offer the live stream.

If we stream them or even better if you can attend, the other two Panasonic presentations are going to be quite interesting as well. One is DP Bill Wage, ASC discussing how his use of Dual Native ISO and other features of VariCam have informed his shooting, and the other is a case study on shooting anamorphic on VariCam with some stunningly beautiful footage.
Thanks!

The C200 dropped the ball by not offering internal 10bit 4:2:2. It might have better low light capabilities than the Ursa Pro, and a few more bells & whistles, but Ursa Pro offers far more flexibility with internal recording for Raw, 12bit 4:4:4 & 10bit 4:2:2 at all resolutions, plus it has better overall image quality.

This new Panasonic camera is the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger on buying the Ursa Pro. I love LOVE Varicam's image quality, and the GH5 is mighty impressive for only $2K, so I'm pretty excited to see what Panasonic reveals. Hopefully they can pick up Canon's dropped ball and run with it.

How are you going to say it has better image quality when Canon has barely announced the camera?

If it has the same dual-ISO as the Varicam LT/35. If its a GH5 sensor then my money goes to C200.

BEAUTIFUL WOMEN IN BIKINIS PETTING ADORABLE PUPPIES!!!

Just wanted to see if anyone was still looking over here. ;-)

We're quite confident you'll like what you see on Friday. Come check us out.

Ha! I can't wait to see what you unveil, because one of the two will be my next camera. Competition is really heating up if Canon is undercutting Sony on price... Good luck, Mitch; a bunch of us are rooting for ya and having two fantastic cameras to choose from is a great thing for us on the buyer's side.

Not sure why some are expecting the specs of a $17000 Varicam that's not even remotely in the same stratosphere as the paper specs for the C200...if that's your must have standard, I guess you'll be buying an 8bit internal C200...Mitch is either a very good poker player, or I'm prepared to be blown away on Friday...or maybe it's both!

Still curious about who's guess came the closest!
My last guess will be philosophical....this camera will be as groundbreaking as the DVX100 was in the day!

There is C200 footage to see. Plus it has the same sensor as the C700, but with far more limiting codecs. 8bit 4:2:0 is just silly now. Cheap DSLRs offer better.

Also, I've never been a big fan of Canon's IQ to begin with. I personally prefer the IQ of the Varicam and the Ursa Pro over the C700.

There are a lot of things that I love about Canon that supersede IQ in many instances, but I'd never use Raw for any of those instances, and 8bit 4:2:0 just doesn't cut it.

Yeah it offers 8-bit in the compressed codecs; but it also offers 12-bit raw internally, and it does output 10-bit to a recorder if you really need it. I'm thinking of it like it offers what the C100 does, but with raw recording added in, which is fantastic.

I shot a little film race short film a few weeks ago. Used DVX200 and recorded internally. 8-bit 4:2:0 h.264 in a .mov wrapper. Had the same artifacting and other blechs when comparing the footage to stuff I shot on my T2i back in 2010. The joy of using the DVX200 comes from it being a proper video camera. Sure, it can do 422 10-bit external, but for run and gun, the internal is just fine. And that's why I have it. I always liked the form of these unibody camcorders...for video work. Especially tripod stuff. ENG I'd rather have a full-size shoulder cam, of course. Cine work sorta needs both.

When I upgrade my cinema camera, I don't want to be burdened by an external recorder. I want internal 10-bit 4:2:2 at 200Mbps. If it's a proprietary Panasonic compression method, fine. I bet it will have a choice of wrapper. I wonder if Panasonic will have some sorta raw mode, too. Make that external. Or, make it internal. I don't know. I just know the only compromise I would be meh about is the body. I could rig it to be shoulder-mountable. No EVF? Eeeggh. I like EVFs, but I could buy one...or use a sunhood. Not the same thing.

But, as it was said before, Canon dropped the ball with the 8-bit 4:2:0 internal on C200. Internal raw is great, but it's almost like they're forcing you to use it. Even at ~$7k we should have more options and 10-but 422 internal with an appropriate bit rate should be one of them. That makes the C200 considerably unsexy to me.

I don't know what Panasonic has up its sleeve, but Mitch doesn't seem to be the kinda guy to get excited even if its his job to pretend to be. I think The Mitch doesn't act excited unless he actually is...and I think he's genuinely excited about Friday. So, I think I will be, too.

C200? More like C150 because that's the Mbps at 4K it gives you.

Yeah it offers 8-bit in the compressed codecs; but it also offers 12-bit raw internally, and it does output 10-bit to a recorder if you really need it. I'm thinking of it like it offers what the C100 does, but with raw recording added in, which is fantastic.

Seems like it would be far more useful to do 10bit 4:2:2 internally and output Raw. The majority of C100 & C300 shooters I know rarely use or need Raw.
