If this new cam doesn't have the Varicam sensor in it, I hope its darn close. If not it it goes into the cameras I don't care to shoot with bucket lol.

All I care is that it isn't M43 and that it has Varicam/older Panasonic color science. Should be interesting to compare with the C200 specs.

If it has the same sensor as the Varicam and has Dual ISO then it will be a big deal.

If the Canon C200 or whatever it's called has Dual Pixel AF and
any form of IS it should be an interesting fight !
However I don't see Canon allowing internal 10bit 4K 4:2:2 recording on the C200 (I hope I'm wrong)

This is just my opinion but if the Canon does have these features along with internal 10bit 4K 4:2:2 I think it
will outsell the Panasonic (unless Panasonic can offer similar specs)
Despite what many are saying Dual Pixel AF is a big deal and the C200 should be good in low light, plus you have
native AF across all it's lenses, IMO this is a very big deal in this market segment.
Only three days and we will know more !

Looks like Canon has just fired the opening salvo !
If this new camera does 4K 10bit 4:2:2 internally, and with the CFast slot on the side it looks like it may. Then Panasonic could be in for a tough fight.
It will be interesting to see what the new Baby Varicam has to offer ! Fingers crossed it's good.

Considering that the GH5 does 4K 10bit 4:2:2 I don't think this will be an issue for its upgrade.

Honestly, I just can't see how any new 4K camera can get away with not offering 4K 10bit 4:2:2. It should be standard by now for all professional 4K cameras to offer it in one flavor or another.

dude, I am pulling for you after what was just announced, haha

I have to say, I am pulling for Panasonic as well but Canon just dropped a pretty big bombshell for the price range, impressive.

EOS C200 Key Features (from Cinema 5D)

Internal 4K recording with Cinema RAW Light or MP4 format
Continuous 120fps (maximum) High Frame Rate with no cropping at Full HD
Up to 15-stops dynamic range (Cinema RAW Light)
Professional High Quality image and audio
Dual Pixel CMOS AF with touch control and extensive shooting functions
Easy operation and flexible configuration
Price and Availability

The Canon C200 will be available in July 2017 and cost around $9,000 (8,925€ / no official US$ price yet). At the moment the camera is only available for pre-order in Europe.

At this point there is another interesting fact to realize about this camera: While it offers 4K RAW recordings at 50P, which is great, we see that the only alternative is 150Mbps MP4, which is a rather low bitrate codec that is not ideal for professional productions. So at this time there is no “410Mbps All-I codec” as on other EOS cameras like the C300 mark II. This might be a deal breaker for some documentary and TV productions aiming for good quality recordings, who don’t necessarily want to shoot RAW with the more extensive and hard disk space consuming RAW workflow.
The good news however is, that according to the press release, Canon’s XF-AVC video format will be available on a future firmware upgrade. The upgrade will be free of charge and is planned to be available from Q1 2018.

This camera does a lot of thing right, on paper. I'd be curious to see what it's like in practice, but it sounds like it'll be a great option once they improve the internal 4K codecs. The fact that it seems to have the C300 II sensor is very pleasing, as well. It seems like they have righted the ship regarding recording options, and given in to what people have been begging for: RAW/HQ for when they need it (narrative/music vid), light codecs for smaller gigs where the workflow should be quick (corporate/doc).

At this point, I'd hope the Panasonic also has a top of the line sensor...

it's canon, so it'll usually have a big price drop fairly early in it's life cycle - so, i'd wager it'll be an €6500ish-camera when it gets the higher-bitrates firmware update in q1/2018 (only a few months after panny's mystery cam will be available).

i think even at a higher price it's highly competitive already to the ursa mini pro with it's significantly smaller footprint, AF, compatibility with canon PZ lenses and useable high ISO. (or to the fs7, for that matter)

let's see what panasonic has up it's sleeve (i hope it's more than "just" electronic image stabilization). lots of options in that sub-10000 price range...

Yes, given Canon is the "by-default" option for a lot of people (particularly the ones using EF lenses!), in order to be competitive this new Panasonic camera should be doing internal 4k 60fps 10-bit 422 with the Varicam LT sensor if it's selling at a similar price. And that last post by Mitch sounds like they think they are in business, so, that's going to be my guess. The other option is that it has the GH5 sensor on a camcorder body, so it's still 4k 60 fps 10-bit 422 but with a couple stops less DR, but priced against the FS5 instead of the C200 (or previously the FS7).
