Not confirming or denying anything, other than to say I would not trust this information to be absolute fact.
Mitch can you confirm if there's a possibility that the new camera will ship with a lens, the same strategy with the Sony FS7 and FS5? I hope you can confirm that without spoiler Panasonic.

Well, I'm hoping it was my first guess or idea for the Mini before the announcement.

4k up to 60p (raw)
EF mount (bu there's lots of Panny glass out there)
$5,995... wish it would have an evf thrown in (this is something new I just added)
4k 120 dreaming

I like the idea of easy workflow and lower media costs... now if my well doesn't go out or if I don't have to replace part of the roof on the barn because of storm damage... maybe I might have enough to get it... knock on wood...

...And it keeps people talking about this un released camera. Panasonic did the same thing with the GH5, where they first announced only 4 features of the GH5 and kept people guessing for months until the full details eventually came out.

Eh, it keeps people talking. Not sure it changes anything in terms of sales. That is, at best, effected by the actual announcement and the approximate shipping date (unless you're Dennis and have cash laying around)

GH5 was rumored for two years, as verified by the DVXUser's own "GH5 coming in 2016" thread. People bought either GH4 or A6300/6500 meanwhile.

Until Cinegear Mitch can't even confirm being Mitch or whether he is the MFTMitch or an s35Mitch.

The "Low-cost media & workflow" statement gives me pause.

What is a low-cost workflow? I don't expect internal Raw at this price tier, but is there Log, or is it limited to WYSIWYG?

Or maybe I'm interpreting it the wrong way, & it means internal ProRes?

The "Low-cost media & workflow" statement gives me pause.

Varicam LT uses P2 Express cards where a 256 GB is going to set you back $1,150 US, where a SDXC 256 GB V90 ( 720 Mbps ) card should eventually be less than $300 US. ( these cards aren't here yet, but should be out this Summer )

I really hope it's a S35 sensor, I think the internal 4K 10bit 4:2:2 is probably a given. And it will more than likely have all the inputs of the DVX200
and a few more.
For me the thing Panasonic needs to get right is the sensor, if they can provide a S35 sensor capable of taking EF
and MFT lenses like the JVC GY-LS 300 they will be on to a winner.

IMO what's really needed is better low light sensitivity from the sensor and improved DR. I for one would be happy with
a native 2 stops improvement over the DVX200 and 12-14 stops of DR.
But to get that improvement from the sensor (without fast lenses) I think they will need to make it S35.
However I have a nagging feeling it may be a MFT sensor (If so I think it would be a big mistake)
My 2 Cents.

Let me just reiterate that if you really look at the original teaser profile photo closely and connect the dots (lens identified, mounting plane pictured, flange distances involved) and think about it, there is close to zero chance that this camera will have a MFT-sized sensor. It's going to be at least an APS-C or S35mm sensor or larger. Whether it will also be adaptable to use with MFT lenses is debatable. I personally think that it's more likely that it won't than that it will, but I think that there are valid arguments that can be made that it's possible that it could be adaptable. I don't see any valid arguments that can be made that it has a MFT-sensor, not going by that teaser picture.

hmm.... DVX200 ;) without Lens, and Internal 10Bit.... will be good ;)..... personally i think, it'll be GH5 with Variable ND Filters (1/4-1/128)) with XLR, SDI, V-Log.... price similar to DVX200.... - no S35 Sensor.... - (it'll be good no crop in 4k 50/60.... ;) )

S35 sensor...m4/3 locking mount...sensor option to crop to m4/3 or s16 to use with Panny native glass...old 16mm lenses...GH cameras already crop their sensors for ex tele concert...as do a couple of Sony FF dslr's to s35...no new technology for Panny doing that, and why not...people have invested in their m4/3 system...so shoot s35 for better low light & DR or crop to m4/3 with Panny glass or adapt any mount...PL, EF, Nikon...CanonI guess we'll know in 5 weeks!

Cinegear expo?

Cinegear expo?

I'm not worried about it not being released on the announced date. And I know announcing products months before they ship is completely normal. What I don't like is the total lack of information about the camera: no specs, no price, nothing. It could be m43 or FF, it could be $3,000 or $15,000. It just looks like Panasonic wants to drive more traffic to m43rumors. The announcement is that Panasonic will keep making cameras, and they aim at shipping one this fall. Hardly newsworthy, and completely different from the GH5 announcement: that one also took months to ship, but we knew a lot about the camera.

Did you miss the part about releasing more info at Cinegear, just over a month from now? That seems to be a timely release of information IMO.

If I had to take a wild educated guess I would say the camera will record AVC-Ultra because it is a great Panasonic format and they don't get to use it very often. Makes sense since the camera is supposed to use a "Low-cost media, workflow". AVC-Ultra for 4k uses 400mbps which can work easily on higher end SD cards and is similar to the upcoming 400mbps h264 mode on the GH5 in terms of card requirements. If this Varicam Mini camera uses AVC-Ultra it could easily use low cost SD media just like the GH5 would which opens up a level of quality for shooters that would typically cost a lot more. If this shares the Varicam name I would consider it a must to use the AVC-Ultra codec.

I think it would be ok for the camera itself to not record raw as long as it can feed raw via SDI to an external recorder. This again would keep the cost low for those that don't really need raw and it would keep the media requirements a lot more realistic. We are starting to see some decent priced recorders/monitors that can record raw through SDI. If this camera is affordable enough I think it wouldn't be unrealistic for those that do need raw to buy the extra gear to have it. 10bit 4:2:2 AVC-Ultra is still a really good format for broadcast and most other forms of production.

As much as I would love if it was m43 I'm starting to think it will be s35mm since it is called a cinema camera. There is no official rule that says a cinema camera has to be s35mm but I think thats an industry wide expectation.
