lol, you'll be lucky if the camera even has AF.Definitely don't expect Canon AF performance.
I think so too, but I will wait the same the Panasonic camera...I'm curious also for the image and weight, it could be a good compromise if the image is superior to C300 for example, or extremely low-weight as FS5.

Still inferior to C300 MK II, watch this :

The Canon AF still does not touch a focus puller, though clearly it's better than the GH5...but not by the degree I would have expected....I've seen examples of GH5 AF that's at least close to this particle example of the Canon you posted.

So Mitch...you may have missed my previous post...my guess is m4/3 mount on a s35 variable sensor to be of use with Panny native lenses as well as legacy adapted glass...care to comment, or am I too close with this?

I'd really like to see some examples from GH5, where can I watch them?

I don't have my GH5 yet, nor do I use AF...I did however watch to AF debate as I did with all other things GH5...I remember in passing seeing this clip...of course as everyone's needs differ, this may not be remotely adequate for yours....anyway I'll include the YouTube link below as it may take you to other links that can answer the question for you one way or the other....hope this helps!

Thanks, it's interesting, I hope that the upcoming camera will have similar or better quality.

I'm not as familiar with Canon DP AF, but I've definitely seen Sony AF-C pull off focus that would be quite tough for a focuspuller... Try doing a quick wide to close push-in wide open without a rehearsal. But yet all these AF systems have problems making bad decisions that a focus puller would never make sometimes.

Even back in the DVX100 days, the camera used to hunt in 24p or it wouldn't lock correctly.

Barry Green once explained to me why (answered my post), but I don't remember what he said.

With the DVX100, I think it was just because the camera could adjust the focus more frequently when shooting 60 fields per second. If you think of focusing as trying a sequence of different settings until the target is sharp, then being able to try each setting in 1/60 of second versus 1/24 of a second is going to make you get through the whole sequence more quickly.

I don't know whether that is a limitation for the GH5. For instance, perhaps it's possible for the camera to read the sensor multiple times during each frame? Or, if you're using a 180 degree shutter, could it read the sensor an extra time or two during the black portion of the shutter? If so, then there would have to be some other explanation for why it focuses faster in 60p.

Back in the days of the DVX100, autofocus wasn't even ENABLED in 24p! Why? Because its performance was awful. Because, when shooting 24p, the system is fed updates more slowly, so it responds more slowly, and is more prone to "miss" the sharpest point because it doesn't get feedback as often.

We complained, so they enabled autofocus in the DVX100A -- and called it "focus assist" mode, because they didn't want to call it true autofocus, because it could not be up to their standards.

Autofocus will always work better in 60p/60i than it will in 24p, always. More frequent updates results in more information being sent to the system for processing.

It does a lot of things really well, it's perfect for a lot of shots, as long as you set it up to succeed.

I tried on Sunday pre-show to get Panasonic to spill the beans....

My take is the camera is going to at least have 10 bit 4:2:2 ALL-I and the rest is pretty simple to put together. I would prefer a S35 camera. I've been shooting with the GH5 and really impressed with the color and image.

Here is a little promo I used it on.

If I can get this image quality in a dedicated cine camera at a fair price i'm in. Looking forward to Cine Gear Expo for the big unveil. At least we something to look forward to!.

The info I have says this wont be a particular innovative camera. It's more a mix of already existing functions and features. Plain vanilla these days at a decent price. Look upon it as a competitor to the FS5 or C100 MKII with the added 4k functionality compared to the C100 MKII. The camera will use Panasonics 10-bit codec and a Sony sensor specially made for Panasonic.

Your informant is completely and utterly incorrect and that's all Ill say about that.
