Panasonic AG-AF101 Review

... to forestall the inevitable flood of "noiz/kilp" comments, I saw this footage played back direct from the camera on a big TV at Creative Video, and it looked GORGEOUS. This highly compressed version doesn't even come close to doing the footage justice.

I think this bears repeating: THIS CLIP IS HIGHLY COMPRESSED!! Not a good candidate to look for "noise" issues or "highlight" issues.

Thanks for the link..

Edited to add: Now that I've watched it, the night clips do indeed look super clean. I'm so completely stoked about this camera.

I don't know how much this adds to the AF100 discussion, but it certainly proves that England and the United States are two nations divided by a common language.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Does anyone who has used the camera have anything bad to say about it?

Cause the only complaining that exists so far comes in the form of pixel-peepers.

Its not a 2 x crop compared to 35mm sensor. Its a 2x crop compared to a Stills 35mm Full Frame sensor (i.e. the 5DMKII)

Thats a good point. I dont know anyone that has used it that complains about it. A couple of small things, but overall they usually love it (myself included).

Those crowd shots were nice and creamy with lots of glowing holiday lights. I know it's probably the compression but I did see a lot of detail fall off in the blacks. I can't wait to start seeing some narrative work with this bad boy.

Gotta love their humor. The footage looks great.

I'm sure the footage was color graded and I see no noise in the footage, so I think it's not much to really worry about. The blocking I'm sure was actually just the YouTube compression. And I also assume the night shots were at a higher ISO and I wish they had indicated what they were.

I hope there will be a hack for the frame rates like there was for the HVX200. It would be nice to get slower than 12fps and faster than 60fps if it could at all be possible.

What a great cheery review with lovely images, not to mention that tricked out bus. I loved the shot of the shoppers across the street. I really can't wait to get to work with this camera. Of course, those compact primes are pretty nice too. It's so great to have all these lens options since I can make use of my Nikkor primes. I will be hunting for a wide lens based on suggestions made here.

Great images.

But what this review makes clear so far is that the 14-140mm produces some pretty bland images.

I have yet to like a single shot I've seen made with that lens.

Truly what people have been saying is the truth. With the 14-140mm this looks pretty HVX-like, put some good glass on it and it becomes a digital cinema camera.
