Nothing announced for Melbourne Im afraid.

Also these cameras Im assuming are coming in from Japan - and thus I also assume will be at the same level the guys got to play with last week in Osaka.

Maybe i'll see you down there on Thursday.

I shouldnt think so. Its a turn up and look and touch kind of thing. Id call the venue though to be sure. In Sydney you never know, could be quite a few turn up.

Lemac are doing them for $5500

On a side note I heard that John Barry could be going out of business. I know they recently moved and down graded there shop in Sydney. Any one know any thing about that??

They seemed fined when i spoke to them last week. They gave me a cheaper price than Lemac.

Interestingly this is the only seller in Australia that is currently showing an advertised price and I applaud Steve Hibberd for doing so.

This is typical behaviour for Australian resellers and one that bothers me to no end. Keep the prices hidden and try and make a few extra bucks on top of the unaware buyers.

I am sick and tired of this in Australia. Yes, there are less buyers here than say the US, but per capita the figures would be similar. But in some cases the mark ups are atrocious.

Lets take the poor humble HMC152. Here its advertised for around $5300 USD. In the US for around $2990. Where do you get $2300 more?

Now I dont put this on Panasonic at all. To this end I applaud Panasonic and Rob Myers for driving the hard line on price for the AF102.

But Australian retailers need to get their head out of the sand. These high prices are driving THEM out of business. I know 100 people that would buy cameras if they werent over priced like this. So they cut their margins and sell three times as many.

Let me use another example.

Manfrotto super clamp listed at John Barry's price $79.00 AUD

Spec Comm in the US price $29.00

And digital camera warehouse - stills camera specialists store in Aus - $45.00

Now tell me why John Barry's sells it for $34 than digital camera warehouse?. Im not singling John Barry's out here either - its the same across the board.

I think Lemac is one of the worst for hidden prices - they have no list price on ANYTHING. Great guys there but common.

Noel +1

My hobby horse too.

Some times one gets the argument of the local warranty.... I am not sure about that. If I am in the middle of a shoot, possibly in a remote area, or even overseas, I need a working camera within hours if not minutes. Most of the people I work with prefer to have a second cam on stand by within reach in case things go pear shape. Sending the equipment away and waiting to get it back is totally out of question.

Three years warranty sounds sweet, but would this camera "last" 3 years in the current environment when every 6-12 months there is a new development and we are all trapped in the waiting game for the ultimate killer camera that is promised left right and centre? I'd rather invest in good lenses that will outlast 5 generations of cameras. Maybe they will offer a >5000 cam with 12 months warranty as an option, though I don't see it coming as the first shipment is already oversubscribed.

FWIW, back On Steve Hibberd and provis being the only retailer currently advertising a price. I want it know that whilst I have bought a number of things from Steve in the past, I have no interest in provis.

My recommendation to use them is based on their current policy to be transparent on price (per above) and my previous experience dealing with Steve (as a customer).

I just got a price of $4249 before getting a call back and being told that was under cost and now have been quoted $4850 inc GST with an emailed copy of the quote on its way.

And Noel, I totally agree with you re transparent pricing and Lemac.
That said the rental guys there are really helpful.
