This will be thread where I will share any information that comes to me regarding the AF100 that pertains to the Australian market. Hopefully it will slow down the direct requests via email and phone. Cheers guys :) I am a MOD at DVXUser as well and not related to Panasonic. But, I am keeping as current as I can.

So what I can tell you as at today:
Info as at 24/09/2010

- The Panasonic AF100 will have a global release the second week of December, so stock should arrive third week of December here in Australia. Panasonic locally advise me that there should be a few models appear in store literally the day before X-mas. But have also advised to expect to be able to get yourself one the first few weeks of January.

- Panasonic Australia will be working of the US list price, consider currency exchange and local taxes on top of that. My best guess would be as I type this around $6500 AUD. Thats a guesstimate only. But officially there is NO price locally as yet.

More info to come as I get it.

Update October 5 2010

Well, well all you aussie buyers I think I have some excellent news for you.

This comes straight from Rob Myers and IS a DVXUSER EXCLUSIVE. Thats right this is the first information coming from Panasonic Australia on the AF100 pricing and release dates.

So without further ado heres the quote from the man himself

AsiaPac model will be the AG-AF102E. Same features as the 100,101 etc... yes, 50/60. Will give more details as soon as I'm allowed, soon. Good news is local Dealers will be able to sell under $5,5,00 plus GST. Pricing is still tentative, subject to AUD shifts. Deleivery will be in the last week of Dec. First to place an order with our Dealers gets the first stock. You heard it hear first.

Hopefully the price will reflect the current exchange rate with the USD. Today, the ~5000USD to ~5275AUD+10%GST = 5802.50.

Of course, one will never know what happens till December, but a price around the $6000 figure will be more acceptable. Not being a consumer product, it will be hard to find competing retailers to shop around for the best price. I find that the local resellers of professional video products have very inflated prices that do not necessarily follow the global ones, unless they are instructed by the manufacturer.

Thanks Noel and I think you're right, unless some Oz dealers have their heads in the sand, being sort of sort after, the price will be around 6.5K.

I'd check around and see if you can preorder one and pay a deposit on an agreed price. I'm not but that's how I'do it. Make this a sticky for a while?

Cheers.

i'd say brace your self for a $9000 AUD price tag.

My HVX was $7800 when HVXsin the USA were available at $5000 - and the aussie dollar was strong at that time.

The Pal cameras seem to sell at a premium price - and the smaller market / volumes here mean pricing is quite different to the US.

Aren't they 50/60? With airline prices so low just hot foot it to NY and grab one, throw in an early bird show on Broadway, easy :)
Cheers.

I am afraid that our resellers will look at this price, based on what I see around. This is a universal camera, it is not locked to a PAL system.

I will possible shoot a feature next year in a neighbourhood country, in a very remote location. Buying locally, will not give any inducement with warranty, as any possible repairs cannot be carried out from there. We'd prefer to have a second cam as backup than wait for shipping back and forth for service.

The Oz resellers just don't get it. I was quoted ~1800 for a small carbon fibre video tripod and head. I am getting it direct from the manufacturer for 600AUD, landed. It will take only 10 days to get it, and I can prepare my older tripods to hit the ebay.
For a recent documentary, we purchased a number LED light panels that sell in Oz for 3x the price one can get them on-line or direct from the source. I used them on one month overseas shoot without any problems.
Putting my name now on a list and committing 9000AUD, without having a production that starts within days of the camera's release, is not my cup of tea. December - January is a pretty quiet time, workwise, in Oz and a bit of careful consideration will not hurt.

Having been a naughty boy this year, Santa will probably delay my presents. I can put up with that.

Be interesting to read the PAL versus NTSC reviews. That feature alone will sell literally heaps of this camera.

Clever move by Panasonic with one packaging, shipping dept, manual and one complaints dept.
Probably get switched through to a guy in India, a reject from the c/games.

Cheers.

There is some good news out there for those in Aus right now wanting to get the AF100.

Firstly, Japan Bank is on a mission to devalue the yen and keep Japanese exports high to help with economic recovery. As the cameras originate in Japan this is the rate we need to keep an eye on. But year to date they seem to be doing a good job of it selling up the yen at the right time to do this.

On the other slide we are seeing a very week US dollar. And as the US Federal Reserve keeps talking about injecting more $ into the economy, basically printing more money and releasing it, that will keep the USD low.

Suprisingly the Australian government isnt taking any action at present.

Looking at the data though would suggest the Aussie might be around peak for the moment and should back of a few cents to the USD in the next month.

Either way we aren't going to see a big shift right now, but for xmas and the AF100 release? Who knows.

I hope the Aussie pricing and order details come out soon before US dealers go live. There will be such a shortage on this camera that one would be best to secure one wherever they are available first.

Another little tidbit. Rob Myers is on the global pricing path. His intentions are to certainly ensure this happens in Australia.
