Panasonic AF100 Australia - Price info added

John Barry.

Happy to say, and never understood why some one wouldn't be happy to say, whats that about??

Yes Im not really sure at all. Its not like you owe these guys anything.

Also, Lemac for rental, totally agree. But where Im located I prefer Procam in brisbane for camera gear etc and pheonix productions for lighting and grip.

Well I want to curb the expectation somewhat and say if your getting your AF102 between 5000 and 5400 its about where it should be. Based on what I have personally been told and found.

Just wondering if anyone would know if there is a long term lease/ or renting solution in Aus at all?

cheers

PS i'm a film student....poor

I would say no, unless your school / hecs has some sort of deal. Certainly not through a regular finance company unless you can satisfy the credit criteria.

Ah well, I was gonna say if you were in Sydney to come by the office and if you were a decent bloke you could borrow my companies gear during down times and help/work on our jobs if you were interested but cant help ya in Brisbane, sorry Bro.

Id say get your self on some ones books and start makin some cash. The AF100 is so cheep that its wouldn't take long to afford one. Down this way Runners get $250 a day ish and if you know your way around a camera properly Cam assists get $350 - $450 a day. Do a few jobs and you wont need to borrow.

Damn! I wish i lived down in Sydney... there's a few things cooking here in brisbane (Terra Nova, Bait) but i'm finding it hard getting a foot in the door... Thanks EndCredits for the offer and advice. Cheers

No worries. And if it helps, the best thing I did during my film school years was to call people in the industry up and take them out for lunch and find out in great detail what they do, how they got there where they see the industry going and any thing else I could. I asked every thing including annual turn over, staff wages, insurance costs, every thing.

Borrow a copy of the production book from the library at your uni and call around. If you get knocked back ask when it would be good to call again and call exactly when they say to. Persistence is the key. And once you graduate call the people you took out for lunch and ask for a job then ask for work experience if there is no job, they will remember you taking them for lunch. Id say its better money spent buying lunches than buying a camera at this point.

Let the other shmucks spend money on gear and learn on theirs. Buy lunches and you will be the most informed and connected guy in your class.

Well, i'll be going down to Sydney the week of the 13th of Dec. Feel like a free lunch?

Hi guys can we keep this thread AF102 relative please. (asingfield theres the AF100 touch and feel on in Brisbane tomorrow - details in this thread. Good place to meet people).

Brisbane, about 3/4 of way through advanced diploma of media production (film)

It's not going to be a long term deal, but Matched Image offer students mega deals on gear as an incentive to keep them coming back after their studies finish. Hire the camera for a week for a project, give yourself a day or two of testing and shoot for the remainder. Club together with 2 or 3 likeminded guys and see that price go down! The gear would be light years better than the awful stuff I had to learn on way back in my uni days.

I have to add, I hire kit and occasionally get hired by MI as a shooter.
