Panasonic 4k camera system info & updates

I also get a 2160p (4K) option at that exact link. Perhaps youtube is limiting it based on the device that you're accessing it from?

I get a 2160p option for that Yucatan video and on a 27" 2.5k display it shows amazing detail with decent color and dynamic range. Cheers, Pete

Sorry for the thread hijack. :lipsrseal

Yes, it looks like youtube (usually) limits the display options to the max native rez of the display.

It must be something else than the actual display resolution, because I saw the option for 2160p on a 1920x1080 monitor. Perhaps it has to do with browser, OS, Flash Player, or some other software or driver issue. Maybe search the net to see if someone else has run into this and found a solution. Good luck.

Has anyone caught that it looks like 4K is going to be recordable only at 24.000, not 23.976? That's going to be a real PITA.

Typically if you need 17x9 true 4k or 2k instead of 16x9 HD then you want to shoot 24p instead of 23.976p. 23.976 is a byproduct of the NTSC TV standard so it could fit inside of 29.97.

Only way it is slightly a "PITA" is if you plan on creating an optical disc for the NTSC market. Even then it is pretty darn easy to edit as 24p and conform to 23.976 when you create those discs or if you need to deliver to a broadcaster. If you really do intend to deliver for broadcast, DVD or Blu-ray then you really are better off just shooting 3840x2160 at 23.976 instead of the slightly wider 4k.

I preordered with B&H as well. No interface unit as I want this camera for small and light work. Honestly, I'd much rather them have made a simple XLR adapter like the Sony unit, which is around $750. I think that the interface unit is overpriced. If it had a built-in battery solution or was better designed, maybe then the $1999 would be more reasonable. As is, I wouldn't pay more than $1000 or so for it. Also looks like the camera may be able to output 4k 4:2:2 10bit over the HDMI, which I'm sure recorders will support soon enough.
