Panasonic 4k camera system info & updates

The Vistek.ca website (Canadian Retailer) shows a price of $1599 for the Camera body.

The B&H website shows that the Camera should be delivered by the end of April 2014. It also shows the interface unit (DMW-YAGH) being ready for delivery by August 2014.....but it shows the combo Camera/Interface as shipping End of May 2014?!?!?!

I am very curious to see what the pricing on the interface unit will be. Some have noted that it might be more expensive than the camera itself....which I can't really see happening.

I have a retina iPad and it won't let me do more than 720p. How are you watching this?

I didn't note the resolution of the video as I was watching it, I just thought the video looked great.

There was some discussion about allowing the Vimeo's and YouTube's of the world do the downscaling and decompressing rather than the user doing it. So my point was that although the footage I was watching was shot in 4K I was watching it at a much lower resolution therefore supporting the notion that many online websites downscale and decompress quite nicely.

Does anyone know yet what the actual image 4K image area on the sensor is yet? I know it's somewhat smaller than the GH3 image area and smaller than the photo still area used. I can't find it though there's a hundred threads on this camera. I'm just wondering because I'm want to know how badly my S16mm lenses will porthole and what actual resolution I can get out of them.

Yeah, I saw the image from EOSHD. It doesn't give an exact specification, but if I am calculating correctly, the horizontal active area for 4K is about 15mm out of the 17mm sensor width, somewhat larger than Super 16mm.

So is there or is there not a way to get canon L lenses w/ electronic iris on a smart speedbooster on the gh4?

So like, can someone give me their opinion then on how this sucker will be compared to lets say the GH2's I use now? Will I see a significant increase in my low light capability? With the MUCH higher ISO and the 4k downsizing, I should be able to get way cleaner video out of my dimly lit wedding ceremonies and receptions?

I was considering a FS100 for this, but now everything I'm reading is screaming to go with the GH4

GH4 isn't out yet so hard to say for certain, but FS100 may be around equal in terms of lowlight. The GH4 will definitely be a good step up in lowlight performance for M43 sensors, but from my understanding that just means they are playing in the same league as an S35 sensor but without the larger sensor size. Given you are already invested in the GH2 setup a GH4 would be a very seamless upgrade path that should give you a good boost, particularly if you got a speedbooster or the Nokton 25mm and can pull manual focus like a pro.

FWIW I shoot wedding receptions in extreme lowlight all manual with the Nokton 25mm @ f/0.95 and shutter at 1/24 and 1600 ISO on the AF100 (when needed) and am able to get pretty good results, especially with a little post work + Neat Noise remover. But I've become very proficient at pulling focus accurately and quickly wide open. GH4 low light performance would be a welcome boost for me!

I've looked at the Nokton 25mm a few times - I have the panny 25mm 1.4 and wasn't really sure if it was worth the buy or not. Youre able to do a 1/24 shutter? I typically only go down to 1/60 as I'm shooting 30p. Figured any lower would be quite blurry, maybe I should run some tests. Yeah I try and not go to 3200 ISO when I can for the most part and neat video is a godsend. I've gotten quite proficient at manual focus myself, might have to give that Nokton 25mm a whirl sometime, or maybe the 17.5? Hm. Though a grand for a lens is a lot for me, I'm used to getting away with canon 1.4 fd mounts ;p

Another question - would low light scenes benefit from recording 10bit 4:2:2 with say an atomos external recorder? The ability to bring up the blacks in post?
