Panasonic 4k camera system info & updates

My guess is that the screen info disappearing on the GH3 is in order to prevent burn-in on the screen. If that's the case, then I fear the GH4 may have the same issue?

I sincerely hope that it becomes a menu setting that can toggle that on and off, but I'm not holding my breath.

i hope it gives the fs some competition because that might be just the thing sony needs to release 4k raw to the od 7q...

The shutter speeds/angeles on the FS700 has always been a non-starter for me. The inability to dial-in safe shutter angeles for filming 24p in countries with 50 Hz Utility Frequency is inexcusable.

That would seem to be a very prudent step at this point in time. ...

If BMD makes a 4K Hyperdeck Shuttle, it'll likely have one 6G-SDI input (and one HDMI input). If so, it won't support 4K directly with the GH4's adapter box quad-SDI 4K, but it might support 4K input via HDMI. We'll have to wait and see.

That was one of the reasons I hoped the Adaptor Unit would have (at least) the following.
1 x 6gbs SDI
1 x HDMI
2 x XLR
1X DC
1 X TC
If it was battery powered and more ergonomic I would be happy.

It might have 1 6g-SDI, and 1 3g-SDI, and 1 HDMI input. That way people could have dual link 3g-SDI for 4k if their device doesn't support 6g-SDI yet. All the ports on "the beast" GH4 attachment are 3g-SDI, and you only need 2 of them for 10bit 4k, the C500 does "Canon half RAW" 4k 10bit 60fps over dual 3g-SDI, so I don't see why the GH4 shouldn't be able to as well, 10bit 4k that is.

Does anybody know if the screen info still disappears after 10 seconds? I've been reading as much as I can - but haven't found anything. Got one of my wishes with the new improved EVF, and hoping this is now a menu setting...
That feature alone mede me not consider GH3, along with bad highlight roll-off.

Can someone here understand and interpret German? The reviewer in this video @ 1:57 talks about the two holes on the front bottom portion of the interface unit. Some have speculated that it might allow for the attachment of rods.

I asked around, and supposedly this is what he says

"On the front are corresponding ports that can also be used to attach rigs, this equipment will be available soon."

So they might release custom rails on their own or something.

Well, there's no accounting for taste... :) (I'm kidding).
Haha, oh well, what can I say? =)

Shooting on DSLRs drives me nuts because I learned on ENG and that's how I prefer to do things, but I totaly get why someone would prefer it or like HDSLRs. I mean, they wouldn't be releasing these features in a DSLR if people didn't like it. I just wish they would release an AF100 follow up for those of us who don't.
In many ways, majority of dslr's have issues. So, as of today, I prefer 'real' cameras like an Alexa, or ENG shoulder mounts and even a C100, but as far as potential goes, I like the DSLR concept. It is just not there yet. Bodies like the 60D and 1D-C got close, they just need a few more dedicated video button options, a slightly more angled grip (10 degrees more even, doesn't need much).

There may be a few more things I would like too. But this is from a owner shooter and cinema verite' or french new wave perspective. Built in ND, even just a .9 and usable iso100, and some sort of EVF solution. The swing out LCD with a loupe is good, or having an EVF to the left of the OVF. But who knows if these could ever be implemented. Would be nice to have the best of both worlds.

The holes on the front of the YAGH, have been answered a while ago. According to http://shop.panasonic.com/shop/model/DMW-YAGH : "Front facing screw holes provide expandability for rail systems and added stability for PL mounts."

As for an angled grip, something like this might help: http://www.promaster.com/products.asp?product=3102 - it looks like it's a generic product that can be found under many brands on Amazon...

CustomThumb.asp
Nice, maybe if dslr bodies had a port for the grip, then it would work like a C300 without the need for the expense of a different camera line, just break outs and add ons which are seamlessly integrated? Oh, dangerous ground to be tread upon. We may be entering another few years of hybrid darkness.

The worst thing about 4k may be that companies can usher in a whole new group of half thought out cameras.

The GH4 looks good. To me, it is potentially the most exciting thing Panny has done since DVX100/Varicam days. Now if only Metabones can incorporate an ND filter in their speed adapters. I may actually go for this.

There is one guy who developed an integrated ND filter and lens adapter for EF lenses to M43 bodies, called the HolyManta VND.

People around here stated there would be an issue because it went from nothing between the lens and body, to a glass variable ND filter, and they were stating it should have had a piece of clear glass instead of just nothing.

But from the samples I have seen, there don't seem to be any issues, and they chose a good ND filter to put in there.

Very cool. I feel DSLR's have all that space behind the mirror, I wonder if high priced special cameras, like future 1DC's, could fit an ND9 in there?

I don't like it with these promotional videos that they don't say "filmed with a GH4" it makes me feel conned if some of the shots are filmed on a different camera. What if the footage is filmed on an Alexa? what is that supposed to say about the GH4:? "brilliant at capturing video, but not quite good enough for this advert. These are just examples of cinematography you can aspire to, but wont be able to actually replicate on the GH4." Is it best to just totally discount this ambiguous footage?

Filmed with the GH4 in 4K :

Thanks. I think I might have watched that already though. lol. It was more just a generalized rant against ambiguous promotional vids.

No it's true! I know the 4K trailer is but I am more curious about the other footage. Ie the video on the photo journalist and the Japanese water/volcano photographer. They showed their pictures... But was the story filmed on the GH4?
