FS5: Paid RAW Upgrade in June 500€ / 600$

I have not done the side-by-side comparisons to be able to give an opinion.

I will say that the FS5 RAW output is more akin to the FS700 RAW than it is to the FS7 RAW output.
 
I have used the FS700/7Q raw many times, it has a great look. I have been considering upgrading to the FS5 if there is a difference in quality. Isn't anyone curious if the RAW footage from these cameras has improved over the last 4 years?

And so will the FS5. I think the question for FS700 owners may be:
'is the raw and/or raw to ProRes video from the FS5 enough better than that from
the FS700 as to entice me to spend $6000 to upgrade?'

I don't think so.
For me there would be many other reasons to go for the FS5 from the FS700 - but not the quality of RAW in comparison to the FS700.
It's a nice small lightweight camera for solo operator, documentaries, traveling etc. RAW is a nice add on and I doubt that there will be a big difference from FS700 as FS700 was quite good.
 
Ok with the raw upgrade you get full flavour RAW full 4K video (4096 x 2160) with 12 bit depth via the SDI/3G bnc connector....but do you also get full 4K 10bit via the HDMI with the upgrade as opposed to 4K UHD.

Mitch, can the O7Q take the FS5/FS7 12-bit 4k raw and record it as 2k 12-bit ProRes 4:4:4?

Well please feel free to add it to the (already, undoubtably oversized) customer wish list! :) Being able to get 12-bit 4:4:4 compressed recording out of these things would be brilliant.
 
Oh lalala. Yes. Compressed gradeability is one of the reasons im looking at RED.

But my docu work keeps me at RnG friendly Sony.

CinemaDNG isnt really production friendly, to state the obvious.
 
Any new videos or thoughts on this? I haven't seen much around the internets but planning on pulling the trigger on it and a 7Q next week.

I'm confused. Is there a promotion for first time buyers? Is the RAW unlock $100 cheaper? Just need to know if I have a deadline to make the purchase.

There is two raw unlock at play here. First you need to unlock the FS5 through Sony for $600 (or something), then you need to buy the Odyssey 7Q+ and after you have bought the 7Q+ and registered it on Convergent Design's website, you need to buy the raw license bundle for the 7Q which sells for $595 until the 15th of August after which it goes back to it's normal price of $995.
So you can save $400 if you do it before August 15th.
