P2CMS crashes MacBook Pro ???

It seems the P2CSM is crashing my MacBook Pro when I try to export clips from the P2 card. This is the exact workflow that gives problem:

I connected a P2 card (16 gb) to the Duel adapter (no driver for Leopard...).
I opened P2CMS, viewed the clips, and tried to ingest them using
the export command (copy selected), exporting to a new folder in my documents folder.
I have 1.7 GB on the card to copy... It started exporting...But....
before finishing, the screen of death appeared and I was forced to restart.

I also tried copying from P2 to desktop with finder
and all 1.7 gb were copied without problems.

I also tried to do it exporting directly to an external Lacie 1TB via FW400.
It crashes when using P2CSM...and all is ok when doing it via finder.

My system is a MacBook Pro 2.4 ghz
4 GB of RAM.
Leopard 10.5.4
P2CMS version is 1.2.7

Any help ? Where can be the problem?

Check this thread. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=139496

If it is this problem, then it is called a Kernel Panic. I had the same problem a while ago, and I think it ended up being a problem with my computer's RAM. It looks like you already did the process of elimination and found out that it is your computer and not the external hard drive.

Not sure where you can go from there, but I tried the same thing on my G5 tower and it worked perfectly, so that was my easy answer... Not sure if there is a solution that easy for you, but maybe someone else can help.

Cheers,
Ryan

That would be what we in the detective business call a clue:)

I also use a MBP with a Dual Adapter to offload footage from my cards.

I use P2CMS simply to check on my clips after I have transferred them with the finder.

This has worked for me flawlessly.

I don't rely on Panny's shaky Mac software to perform finder functions (managing files) for the computer and I do not rely on the Mac to perform P2 card functions like erasing and formatting. Panasonic has been abysmal getting the workflow for P2 smoothed out for Mac users.

To me the process of getting footage off the card and on to your drive SHOULD BE SEPARATE from the process of manipulating the files for use with your NLE.

The former needs to be done with speed and simplicity in the field in the middle of shooting, the latter can happen seated with latte in hand at your leisure.

Last but not least- make sure your version of P2CMS is up to date. They had issues with earlier versions that have been smoothed over with later versions.

I support the above post.

I would never use the Panasonic utility to facilitate a transfer of a p2 volume to a Mac. Use the finder after write protecting the card and mounting it on the desktop
