P2 to Lacie Hard Drive?

The following is from the "Who is using HVX" section .

"I offload the card (P2) onto a portable Lacie hard drive, which plugs into a Macintosh PowerBook running Final Cut Pro"

My question is how do you offload a P2 card onto a portable hard drive?
If it is possible then I don't need a laptop in the field. All I have to do is at the end of the day go home and and dump everything onto the Mac:dankk2:.Right?

I am still learning so if it is a silly question just humor me please.

Thanks in advance.

You just plug a firewire hard drive directly into the HVX and put the HVX in 1394 HOST mode. It then copies the contents of your cards directly to the drive, no laptop needed.

Just so you know, the drive has to be formatted using FAT32. The camera can format the drive for you, but just in case you have an existing drive you want to try this with, be aware of this requirement.

Barry,THoff thank you guys thats what I wanted to hear.
Wow that is just fantastic.
One question how can you be sure that the footage is properly downloaded?
Thanks again.You guys are great.
Good day

The camera has a VERIFY option that you can (and should) turn on. You can also browse the hard drive contents to see what's on it (though you can't play the footage on the camera).
