P2 to Cardbus

Those HVXers using P2 with new generation MacBook Pros and others with new laptops stuck with the new Cardbus architecture: I've just received an email from Duel saying they are working on an adaptor for PCMIA to 32-bit Cardbus that should be compatible with P2; planned launch in July 07.

Keep on eye on www.duel-systems.com.

cheers

I'm really not sure about the workflow in terms of different laptop with cardbuses,

I'm thinking of buying some sort of MacBook / Ibook / powerbook,

What would be easiest to use with p2?
do any of them have compatible ports?

and what would be the best process if not?

Only the G4 Powerbooks have a PC Card slot that will work with the p2.

So the iBook, MCB, and MacBook are not compatible with the p2.

For Mac users, buying a cheap PC laptop with a Cardbus slot, is, ironically, the cheapest option for P2 capture and viewing in the field right at the moment.

I hate to say it. Gives me the chills, personally.

There's also the P2 Drive (5 Cardbus slots, USB 2.0 connectivity) option, and I wonder how the 2-Slot P2 Drive device Panasonic was showing at NAB as a mock-up in the glass case is coming along... I'd rather get one of those than a Windows laptop for field capture.

I can get a used powermac g4 for 900.

Not sure how cheap pc laptops with pc card slots...

but i'm kind of commited to mac and would really like an nle in the field that i'm used to.

So my real desicion is the powermac accompanied with a buspowered external like LaCie Little Big Disk

or a p2 store...

both would cost me about the same....

I agree

You can pick up a pc laptop with a pcmcia slot for about $500.

Then get a 400gb Seagate external HDD. - about $200

Real cheap and works perfectly.
