P2 Store partitions not showing

When you hook a P2 Store up to a Mac aren't the partitions loaded with cards supposed to show up in the broswer? I had two 4 Gig cards offloaded to the P2 Store but only one card appeared in the browser.

I could see all 15 partitions in disk utililty and the two loaded partitions were colored orange.

I think other times I used P2 Store I could see all the partitions onto which I had loaded cards. Am I imagining this?

In a similar vein, I recently was finishing up a shoot in Miami. I had loaded 3 cards to the P2 store, I knew that as a fact. WhenI got home I cabled the P2 store and a target disc to my Mac book, started P2 genie and only 2 volumes in the P2 store mounted . I start thinking about whether I made a mistake or accidentally erased a volume, which would still be a mistake, and ejected the P2 store after copying. Then the P2 store was remounted and 3 volumes were shown, confirming what I thought to be true as true. It was a little strange and lead me to think that we really have to keep track of what is loaded on the p2 store in a very tangible way, if the computer is not going to reliably recognize the volumes contained on the p2 store.

I think I am including a image of a .01 version of the P2 store user interface. I sent this TO Jan C @ panasonic but I am not sure she ever got it. This UI will have to do until Panny puts an LCD screen on the P2 store that will allow you to see volumes and maybe even clips contained within.

There is definitely a bug somewhere. But the bullet-proof solution for forcing all partitions to show up is by using Disk Utility and manually 'Mounting' all the partitions. Basically, you click each of the P2 Store's partitions and click mount. Even for the partitions that are greyed out. In Mark's case where there were 3 cards on the Store, and only 2 automatically mounted, using the method I described, you'll click mount on a greyed partition and it will mount, and there's your missing card.

This is a terrible bug, and I lost some important footage months ago before finding it out.

An additional piece of info to my initial post: As I said I loaded two cards into the P2 Store but only say one partition in the Mac finder. There is a shot that bridges the two cards. Could this somehow make the computer think there is really only one partition?

In my prior uses of the P2 Store I never bridged shots. Therefore each card always started with a new shot.

Could it be that only when bridging cards do they not show up properly in the partitions?

I'm in the middle of an edit so I can't experiment myself until after Xmas.

I've had volumes with spanned clips show up properly before. That the finder doesn't recognize volumes sometimes seems to be some sort of bugginess. I'm going to do some tests with spanned clips tomorrow, but I doubt that's it, because there would have been endless screaming long before this if that were the case.

As Barry has stated.. its a mac thing. When it happened to me.. the one time and 2 of the cards didn't pop up, it sent me into such a friggin panic... But powering down and then restarting did the trick. So far it's only happened once and that was from the time that we had a couple of bad mountings that I had to restart over... so that's what I'm thinking. So far though the P2store has been rock solid.. Just hope that Apple figure out where the bug is.. and squashes it. Still rather take this small infrequent hassel over the larger hassel of having to run things on a PC.. I shudder to think of that drama.. then I'm sure I'd have a lot more to ***** about.

I did another test this morning, mounting y P2 store with 3 volumes on it. It was kind of freaky but my macbook recognized 2 volumes 5 out of 6 remounts and the other one it recognized 3.

I did a permissions repair, which I normally consider the same as whisling past the grave yard, and th situation seems much better now, though it bears some real monitoring.
