P2 Rebate Confusion

quote from the form page:
"Receive your special offer with the purchase of a Panasonic AG-HVX200 camera (purchase must be made between January 1 and December 31, 2006). Simply register your camera with the following online form, and your free gift will be shipped to you. Please contact our helpdesk at 866-339-4296 with any questions. "

As Barry mentioned it says nothing about the free 8gig card, just about the "special offer".

But I can see where the confusion is happening. This page http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SpecialOffersForModel?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=93120&surfModel=AG-HVX200
has the first link that says you get the free 8gig card. Click on that and it takes you to the same page where you get to the form.

So they should probably specify each special offer and dates on the form itself to avoid the confusion.

That might be better. But one could also argue that the "current offer" is obviously only applicable for current buyers, and the dates are clearly spelled out for the other offer (1/1/06 - 9/30/06).

The point of the matter is: no matter what you do, the item you receive is governed by your purchase date. New purchasers are eligible for the "current offer"; purchasers between 1/1/06 and 9/30/06 are governed for the prior offer.

Barry, could you point out to me where it states that the free gift is for a book from you?

The point is that is doesn't state either, or specify either. That's confusing, and should be clarified.

Yep, that is what I did and I too felt at first my purchase date fell in the time allotted for the 8 gig/book.

The two separate date timelines of one gift vs two gifts are overlapped by the phrase "purchase must be made between January 1 and December 31"

Also, there is no beginning date indicated on the first link.

http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SpecialOffersForModel?storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=93120&surfModel=AG-HVX200

This can easily lead the user to accept the start date on the actual application form. Also the word gift applies to both a single item of the book and the double item of the 8 gig/book as the form is used for both.

To suggest this is not confusing is . . . well . . . a tad confusing.

I don't doubt that it should be clarified. But what I am saying is: you said it "clearly stated an 8gb card". It doesn't. On that first page there are two offers spelled out. Based on your purchase date you will be eligible for one of them. Not both.

It says that you will receive a "free gift". It does not say that everyone who fills out that page will receive an 8gb card. In fact, nowhere on the rebate request form does it say *anything* about an 8gb card. You are eligible for a special offer/free gift from Panasonic based on your purchase date.

That's how the program works.

I hate to say it, but I think Barry's right on this one. It should also be noted that this is a different rebate form than the one I filled out earlier. (I also purchased the camera 4 days before the offer started). The current setup is damn confusing and it seems like it's caused several of us to develop a $1,200 lump in our throats.

If anyone has any success into talking the rebate people into letting the dates slip a little bit, please let us all know. I'm with everyone who says that it's not really fair to withhold rewards from the people who bought in early. But in our godless capitalist society, money is everything and you don't need to sell to someone who's already bought your product.

edit:
But hey, at least we get the book/CD. Thanks for that effort, Barry.

Just spoke to Veronica from Panasonic this morning following a telephone call on Monday.

Indicated that I had communicated with Jan, and Jan has clarified the rebate terms. Jan also had concurred that the web site offering the free p2 card and book or p2 card or book was a little confusing.

Veronica responded what I thought was a little defensively saying that the site was clear.

In any case, I suggested that perhaps it might be clearer if there was a link for:

1. click here for a rebate for Barry Green Book and p2 card if you purchased the HVX200 betwen October 1, 2006 and March 31, 2007;

2. Click here for a rebate for the Barry Green Book if you purchased the HVX200 betwen January 1, 2006 and March 31, 2007.

At least that is clear.

She didn't think it was necessary.

Veronica also seemed defense in my email exchange with her.

I, who started the whole thread, think we can now just lay this one to rest but with the suggestion that Panasonic as well as all who must communicate effectively with others (us included) read "Eats Shoots and Leaves."

I gave her some credit when I called and she seemed overloaded. I guess when one processing company drops the ball and it gets dumped on you it can be heck dealing with all the frustrated people.

I'm still waiting for my book after several attempts, but I'm sure it will be straightened out and I'm cool with that...for now.

Well, I look at it this way. I purchased an HVX early in 2006. It isn't a year yet from my purchase date. Folks who purchased late (6 months later) are getting a free 8gig card. I'm a panny loyalist. I'm not saying to give everyone who purchased early a free 8gig but may be a discount on the card might have been a good thing. Whatever the case though, I will have to shell out more money to buy these cards and who wants to pay when others are getting it free?

Just to rub a little more salt in the wounds of the early adopters. Those who are purchasing late and getting a free 8 gb card are also getting the camera at almost $1000 cheaper as well.:crybaby: :2vrolijk_08:

Ouch! That really hurts. May be the next time I will delay purchasing another camera being that it looks like I'm being penalize for signing a list and throwing my money upfront. I guess patience is a virtue.

That's not necessarily true. If you paid a full 6 grand for it, sure. A lot of people bought early but only paid 5500 or even 5300. Still, can't argue with a free 8gb card. :(

There was a deal when pany started selling the HVX200 where you got a 4 gig card with package. I got mine for $5600 with a 4 gig card, now for $5000 you get a free 8 gig card. I hope the prices keep droping....

I'm feeling ornery so here goes...
What piece of technology hasn't gone down in price? Maybe you shoud NEVER buy!
What company doesn't offer specials that don't apply to previous purchases? Again, NEVER buy incase you could save a few dollars next month.

Sure, I would have liked to get the free 8gig card too, but for those implying Panasonic should divy one out to all early purchasers, DEAL WITH IT AND MOVE ON! :crybaby:
You could pay for the 8 gig card in JUST ONE DAY'S SHOOT!

I better shut up now so I don't tick anyone off. Just needed to add some balance to the flames getting started here.

Ted... I agree with you. I made a lot more money with the HVX since February to afford the 8 gig card many many times over. I had a great gig the first week I had the cam that covered that free card. Besides it would have been torture to not have it all of those months. We should be cheerful that the camera has delivered so well on it's promises...

DVX100 et al. didn't drop in price or had this type or dimension of promotion within five months of shipping in quantity.

I never quite understand someone telling someone else they don't know "to deal with it."

Or people getting annoyed with people who are annoyed.

In any case, the rebate period extends for six months and commenced five months after the Panny shipped in quantity.

I think that is annoying, and people are simply expressing their annoyance. It's the American way.

Will it make a difference? Probably not. But no harm in ranting. Just don't read the thread.

I even yell at the refs. Doesn't make them change their calls, but it might affect future calls.
