P2 reader for Mac Pro

I've just registered here so please forgive me if this has been covered to death. I'm looking for an inexpensive P2 reader for my Mac Pro dual 2.66 Intel Xeon tower. I found an inexpensive card reader at:
http://www.amtron.com/reader/p2card_reader.htm#product_option
but they don't support Mac (though they say it has been reported to work).

Has anybody had experience with this? Any alternate suggestions?

Thanks,
JD

i know this has been talked about alot

but i want to know the exact same thing.

if you guys could even link to the old threads where this has been talked about that would be cool.

i am trying to avoid the cost of the p2 store card reader.

of course if the P2 stpre is really fast i could justify the price

thanks

tony

The P2 Store is not really fast, especially on a Mac, as it only has a USB connection. The P2 Drive (AJ-PCD20) has a Firewire 800 connection and is much faster on a Mac. Don't go for the earlier PCD10 model, as that only has a USB connection; the PCD20 is the one a Mac user would want.

There are rumors of an ExpressCard PCI reader for the Macintosh that will work with Intel MacPros.

Beyond that, nothing.

Update:

I ordered one of the Amtron P2 readers but discovered that it only works with PCI, not PCI Express. I've written them to see if they have a PCI Express version, will keep you all posted. David, if you have any links to the rumored ExpressCard PCI reader you mentioned I'd sure like to see them.

Thanks.

Update #2: Turns out Amtron is great about accepting returns. And they have a PCI Express board with a slot for an express card reader. Just ordered one of those with a Duel Systems express to P2 card adaptor. Looks promising...
