P2 MXF and FCP7

Hi everyone

I'm a bit baffled at the moment, and I hope someone here can enlighten me. I always understood that FCP could not import MXF files directly, and faithfully used Log and Transfer.

Now today, just for the fun of it, I tried importing the CONTENTS folder directly via File -> Import folder in FCP7. And lo and behold, FCP gives a few 'file unrecognized' errors, but imports the Clip, Video and Audio folders. I drag the MXFs to the timeline, and DVCProHD plays back with out a hitch, even on a simple MacBook. AVCIntra needs to render (I guess because there is no AVCIntra sequence setting), but also plays back after render.

Yet every post I find on the topic has a forum guru saying what I do is impossible and I need MXF4Mac or Calibrated. Can someone please explain to me what is happening here?

Do you have the P2CMS installed?

That allow you to import mxf files and have the video played back, but the audio file must be manually synced.
