P2 insertion... computer slows/hangs for almost a minute

Hey guys, I just got a (new to me) PB 1.67. I have all the latest updates ect... I was testing the p2 workflow with it and downloaded the demo of p2genie. When I put the cards in the notebook, It takes anywhere from 20-60+ seconds for the card to be recognized. During this period, I get no mouse reaction and it's almost like a hard freeze but it comes back from it. Has this ever happened to anybody else?

I do not get a freeze when I eject the cards. That is okay. Please advise me on what th test.

After the first or second card mine does that. Eventually though mine locks up or the icon appears in the menu bar but the card doesn't mount. Either way, I have to reboot.

I've just learned to save everything and close anything that I don't need because I can count on one hand the number of times I've actually been able to download all five of my 4gig P2 cards without having to reboot.

Can you tell whether the problem is related to the P2 Genie running or not?

I'm not sure. With p2genie running, If I put the first card in to be transfered it takes some time (computer hangs) then gets recognized and everything is back to normal. I can eject the card w/o deleting any contents, put it back in and the card is recognized super fast! What on earth does that mean? The next card, gets recognized fast. Then I just took an empty card and tried to do a copy, just to see what happens. It says card is empty please put in another card.... so i hit erase and eject. It says to eject the card, so I physically eject it and the computer shuts off as if I was holding the power button down for it to reset. Message comes up after the computer restarts saying that the time and date are set previous to march 01 or something like that. WTF does that mean? I bought this mac to have full compatibillity with my HVX. I have a little sony VAIO that smokes through dumping cards. This is rediculous that these macs are having problems.

Any insight?

It's been happening on my PB before I ever put P2Genie on it. So, that has nothing to do with the issue.
Obviously, there are some issues with the PB's and P2 cards

This is wack. I just did a test.... Restart, nothing running except finder. Inserted P2 card and dumped footage. It mounted immediately with no computer hang or lag. It did this with 3 cards. I said okay, lets try p2genie. Did a restart, inserted card, no hang or lag. So depending on the mood of your mac, it decides when it wants to play nice. Hopefully on my next gig, it will want to play nice. Doubting it though!

Happened to me on a field shoot. Then, I rebooted the Powerbook and have not had the problem again.

This has nothing to do with P2 Genie. As have been discussed before it's clearly a driver issue. If it's Apple's Cardbus driver or Panasonic's P2 driver is unknown...

The New Mac laptops are called MacBook Pro. They're no longer using PowerBook.
And yes, the MacBook Pros don't have a PCMIA slot
