P2 Gear / AG-HPG-10 Questions

Recently layed my grubby mitts on one of these little toys and I have a few questions that the manual doesn't cover and I haven't found through research.

1. Is it possible to edit the metadata on the SD card?

I think not, I know it does the scene files but can't figure out metadata.

FYI: Jan/Panny people- If this doesn't edit metadata in the field prior to shooting, with the ability to save it to the SD card and then load it on the camera, then the next generation should (if possible). That would add greater value to the P2 workflow and the accessories you sell.

2. When outputting from editing suite, through firewire, to an HD monitor is the quality of the image good enough for color correction when the ultimate goal is film out/cinema screenings?

b. Would I be better served using the MXO, KONA, etc.?

3. Has anyone tried the USB adapters? I am dreaming of going P2 Gear/USB out/USB-ExpressCard adapter/Express Card-eSata adapter/Sonnet F2 Fusion.
Powering the F2 through the Firewire Port of the P2 Gear to give me bus powered redundancy, and a verified offload.

Should I keep smoking or is something like this at all possible?

Thanks for any help anyone can give.

1. SD CARD? No. P2 Card...yes. Those can be edited. For SCENE FILES, you need to use P2CMS and a USB card reader for your computer. But the Gear can edit and add metadata to the clips after they have been shot.

2. Yes. Absolutely. Firewire to the Gear, then HD SDI or Component to HD monitor. Full quality.
b. No..in this case I believe it is a great alternative.

3. No clue about this. Doesn't sound possible. Just get bus powered USB drives. The FUSION is for on side editing...a MEDIA drive.

Yes power only over USB.

I'll toss in that if you have a fast HD formatted by a P2 gear, with the Gear in USB host mode, I've seen 8 min and change transfers of 16 GB cards to a hosted drive. Not to bad for USB deux.

But i believe to power the USB drive i need to use the firewire port. Thats what i meant.

Thanks for the help guys. Especially Shane and Barry you both have helped all of us immeasurably.

I wish there was a bus powered redundant solution. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

P2 Pimp!

Perhaps, you're thinking along the lines of the Fusion F2 drives (eSATA and FW combo) with the AJA ioHD. That's not the case here. Since the device provides no power through the firewire port, it is not possible. You can do this on a laptop. Not on the P2 Gear.

If you want to use a firewire drive, look into a solution to power the drive externally. Whether it be some sort of battery solution or a drive with a build in power source.

If you want to use a usb drive, the P2 Gear can provide bus power to it.
