P2 files imported into FCP have no audio...

When I important P2 files from my harddrive (which were copied/ingested from my 5-card p2 reader using P2CMS) Would I have to sync the audio from the video files?

or is there a method to get the clips into FCP as they were in the P2CMS preview with audio and picture together?

Is it something to do with the XML files instead of the MXF ?

yep, i'm having the same problem...

untill recently, I was using log & transfer to bring my mxf files into FCP, I just recently installed P2CMS, and I was told I could edit with the mxf files natively, hwoever when i drop them onto the timeline, I get no audio. Is this the case with everyone, or just me?

sorry, I should have gave more info:

I shot 1080/24pA at 180.d shutter speed.

my problem is the same as NewYorkLion's.

when I drag or import an MXF file into FCP it says the file type is not a FCP file and I should use "media manager".....I open media manager and it tells me to copy the file..but I don't want to do that, as it takes long (I've tried it) to copy just a few files, but I have a total of about 70 to do.
And it would take up a lot of HD space... there must be a better way. ?

okay, so I used the log and transfer and choose the P2 files so that FCP converted them to .MOV's, instead of importing the MXL files and now it worked.

New questions:

does the video loose quality as a .MOV using log and transfer, rather then bringing the MXL dragged and dropped from the contents folder?

second, is it safe/recommended to log and transfer straight from the p2 card, instead of using pcms2 to ingest/export the files from the card to my HD first?

No, you don't lose any quality in converting it to a MOV. You lose three things:
1) space
2) time
3) metadata

But the actual converted video and audio are simply re-wrapped into the quicktime wrapper at their original quality.

so why is it, that when I use the mxf files natively, I dont get any audio when I drop them onto the time, but when i log & transfer, I do get audio?

Because FCP itself doesn't support the MXF files AT ALL. What's happening is that because you have P2CMS installed, you can now drop MXF files on the timeline, but because FCP doesn't fully support it it doesn't know to link back to the audio files.

If you use Raylight or MXF4QT, they'd all just work automatically.

unless you shot 720P at 50/25P (insert NTSC as appropriate) , instead of Pn.
There you do get the sound, but you have pulldown issues to deal with in post.
