P2 Driver Installation Error

So, basically I'm trying to transfer directly from the camera with P2 cards in it. I'm installing the P2 drivers and such (latest Mac OS X) and it keeps telling me the installation is successful, but at the same time I get this message about a certain file not properly installing and to attempt reinstall or contacting the vendor.

Anyway, after I click okay to this error, the "installation was successful" remains and waits for me to hit the Restart computer button. I restart, and again the computer still doesn't detect the camera being plugged in. Every reattempt at installing the drivers ends with the same problem.

So . . .

Are you transferring via Firewire or USB?

Have you set the 170 or 200 PC mode to USBConnect or Firewire Connect?

Have you then enabled the MCR mode to connect it?

The only output on the camera (hvx200) is a USB, so that's what I'm using.

And I think you just answered my question possibly, because my PC mode isn't set to USB--but I'm sure I read somewhere that the 1394 or whatever it's called was the setting you should use if transferring to Mac.

But I'm going to toy with those some more and try again.

However, this still doesn't deal with the driver installation error I'm getting wherein a certain file fails to "properly install." If I'm able to transfer my footage after toying with settings, should I still be concerned about that pseudo-error?

Okay that worked. Successfully imported the footage and have it on a hard drive. Now, I'm wondering: is the log and transfer process within FCP still the same even though I've imported via the P2CMS app?

Connect the cam to mac via firewire with 1394 device selected in cam menu. Start FCP, go to log and transfer and you should see a file management screen appear with all your clips which you can log, mark in and outs and import (among other things). Be sure to eject the volume (usually NO Name) when you're done importing into FCP and before you switch the power off to the camera. It is highly recommended on this forum to enable the write-protect switch on the P2 card prior to connecting your firewire cable to cam and mac (some people claim they never do this, but I always do).

Why don't you give it a try and report back?
