I need some help if possible, with my HMC150's. I have two of them.
Both of them have recently developed a condition where when I go outdoors with them they horribly over-expose the scene. It's a total white-out. The cam (in auto iris, or anything else I put it in) indicates it's on 1/120th of a second at f/9.6. It flashes a warning to use a 1/4 ND filter, then 1/16th.
When I do that, the picture does improve. If I manually change the shutter speed to 1/500, it still does it. Using the ND filters is my only way of controlling exposure!
Yet when I use the cams indoors, there does not seem to be a problem.
I was not able to make any other cam I own do this (Pana GS400, Canon HFS-10, XHA1). They all handled simple outdoor shooting w/o a hitch. The 150's used to handle such a mundane task with no problems, too.
I have not seen this before on these cameras. In fact I have never seen any camera do this, where even when on auto, when you go outside on an average day the cam way over-exposes to the point that the entire viewfinder is almost pure white. I shoot a lot of sports (soccer) with them, and they have always done very well.
I took it to Panasonic service on Cahuenga Blvd, Hollywood. They gave me all kinds of time looking at it, trying to figure out what was wrong. They set it back to factory, out-of-the-box settings and it still did it. They acknowledged that the problem was real, that it was not "normal", that the camera should not be doing this.
They ultimately they recommended that I go to the NAB show and ask Barry Green, or Jan if it was due to some setting that they were unaware of.
Has anyone else experienced this condition, and if so how did you resolve it? I have a lot of work coming up that I will need these cams for.
Thanks in advance!
