Our Weekends Are Better Than Yours - Shock-Doc's in American Surrealism (550d!)

Your song choice is perfect. Does DOM stand for Dirty Old Man? Cuz I'm loving these girls. As far as I can tell, the band doesn't have a video for this song on youtube, so you guys have the best thing going so far.

I've spent most of my life in the Northeast. We don't have deserts like this where I live. Where the hell where you? It's cool! I love that intro graphic/motion track thing. it almost doesn't last long enough. I also agree with the two previous posts.

Some serious critique: you should invest in a slider or build a slider or a glide cam. Lose some of the shaky shots. i realize this is cinema verite type stuff, though. The pickup truck is timeless, but the Jeep takes me out of the moment. Looks like, "we borrowed dad's car".

OK, I've wasted enough time. I have to edit a pizza commercial. You're right: Your weekends are better than mine. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) Keep shooting & posting.

The photography is, at times, really gorgeous. I don't know what you're going for in the longer form pieces, but I think the style lends itself to advertising very well. A :30 from this stuff could be fantastic. Otherwise, I guess you chalk it up to an experimental installation piece that could handily play on a bunch of monitors in a Hollister store. That's not a critique, but your format is very derivative of that kind of ubiquitous b-roll I see in those stores.

Wow, thanks man!

You know, I've never thought about that. I'm absolutely going to start calling up a couple artsy bars and more out here in LA to see about setting up a piece.

In constructive new; the red head (Amy) just got an offer from a lady at her salon to do a little 3 minute fashion video in the Our Weekends vein for her jewelry line. We're working on concepts so we can kill it!

The jeep was Mike's (photog man) car and the truck was his roommates. I'm definitely investing in more gear the more work picks up, trying to get as professional as possible with my footage for reels and being able to convince people to give me money.

We're all in LA, and that place was somewhere off a free way just driving north. Not sure exactly.

The only thing missing would be to get a band to do your music, so you could have full rights to both video and music. While a one off performance at a bar probably would not bring out the legal beagles, it would just be better to have the clearances taken care of from the git go.

It the moment I have about 15 vintage iMacs the Wife bought so that I could do a Namjunpaekesque video installation... with now 'retro' Macs... but alas... I have such lousy weekends, I have no time for such things...

Agreed. I'm going to start using my own music or friends band's music to cover my butt on all sides.

Currently working out ideas for the next thing we're going to shoot and we actually have a backer or two. A jewelry designer would like to be featured/ like us to shoot for her and a friend's clothes line potentially would too! I'm going to start contacting artists to be featured too.

i like it a lot, yeah it even moved me :) and don't get rid of the shaky shots or something else for these kinds of films in my opinion, i think your shooting and editing nailed it nearly perfect. kind of the cinematic soundtrack for the web 2.0 ... 3.0 generation. it's an honest feeling you deliver here ... and for me on a technical side any kind of more gear between you und your friends would decrease it. and especially "merry go round" reminds of the feelings photographer ryan mcginley gave me :) , maybe at part because of the fireworks :) http://ryanmcginley.com/

keep up the good work at doing so.

Wow, man. Thanks a lot for the praise! Yeah, I certainly love the style that I've been able to achieve and am constantly trying to come up with ways to evolve it. I think a slider-based shot or two could help here and there for sure, though I doubt I'll be throwing down stix any time soon . . .

Yes, of course... but I must say, with all that with all that available female flesh, and a complete lack of female nudity, you can't be having that much fun...

But that aside... are the 'abandoned' buildings the defunct water park that's about 30 minutes north on i-15 from Barstow? or some other desert deserted place?

But that aside, aside... I think you could have broken these two things up into several clips. And the deserted buildings could have been a pretty good Trash Fashion venue.

As it was, it was a bit jumping all over the place... Kelso dunes... watering hole... abandoned buildings... and all...

You have an obsession with naked women. There's a thing called google image search. You can get your fleshy fix there.

And yeah, we stopped there on the way back from the dunes and made a shoot out of it. Very interesting place, extremely eerie.

Just trying to encourage youthful indiscretions whereever I can...

But I've looked at that abandoned park for a long time... Perhaps this winter I'll get out there to shoot something... the Wife's been bugging me about doing
something with the dunes as well.

There use to be old abandoned mining facilities in the Picacho area of the Colorado River on the California side that we shot at years ago with several of her modeling customers that had interesting results.

Yeah, we've driven past it a bunch of times on the way to Vegas and just decided to see if we could get in. It's completely open and abandoned, could be a great venue for a horror short/part of a movie if I get around to writing one.

Cali's the best for open places and spaces you can guerrilla through for your own stuff. I'm just storing them all away for future (professional) projects while playing around with these.

Been talkin' to a potential advertiser that loves the OWABTY vibe and wants me to shoot for him. Here's hopin' it pans out

Great to see the new chapter. Wonderful work as ever.
Your little films are maybe the best things I've seen on the web.
(Are you still working with the t2i?)

Do you work as a group or is there an author, writer, director or whatever?
I'm asking this because these films are very unusual things, a mix of
spontaneity, fun, experimentation, awareness, and a strange sort of nostalgia.
Everything works great: from camera movements to editing rythm.
I like the title of the series very much too. I would like to stay tuned with your
future work. Thank you.
