Hi guys!

I got the task to edit this small piece. (Please excuse the bad english... we're from Norway )

If the audio is lagging then just view it on youtube :)

Director of photography: Trine Hege Sæle (Filmed with a 7D with the Canon 50mm 1.8)
Editor: Tomas Stavik (me)
Supervising editor: David Stavik
Music: Keith Kenniff (http://www.unseen.bigcartel.com/)

This was a video to show some of the Vineyard churches in the Nordic countries who we are.

Hope you like it!

Oops! Can somebody move this to the Canon 7D section?
So sorry, I'm so used to posting in the DVX threads.

I realise that having "our church" as a title may not be a good way of getting people to comment on a video.
But I would really love to get feedback on it. If you like it or if you hate it. Let me know what can be improved (and maybe how to do it?) ;)

Cheers :)

The editing btw is very rough, on purpose. This is sort of to use, what seems to be the trend nowadays, the "youtube-way-of-editing" a movie. Rough cuts in the middle of a sentence. Chop it up, but also have a few smooth transitions with some filmburns.

wsup Tomas. looks good man. colour is nice. A bit long for me and the micro jitters are annoying. But i get the DP may not have had something to stabilize the footage. The english its totally fine its and nice topic :)

Nice. I really like the coloring as well. And I agree with jambredz. It feels long.

Assuming that the purpose is to get people excited about your church, I think you need to tighten it up. Cut it down to less than 5 minutes (arbitrary), maybe even less than 4 minutes.

Perhaps you can cut it up more to pick up the pace. Rather than spending so much time on one person, inter-cut betwen people/sub-stories to pick it up.

What was the shutter speed? The strobing was a bit distracting, especially when hands would move during interviews.

It also may not feel as long (5:00 or under is a good length for something like this) with more B-roll to illustrate what goes on within the program.

What? Churches in Norway? I thought all the black metal guys and vikings burn them all down?

But yeah, it was good...but it needs to be a bit shorter or maybe edited with something else to kind of break up the pacing. Shutter speed seemed unusually high. Bump it down to 50 and use an ND filter if you have to.

Thanks for the comments guys :)
I understand what you mean by shortening it.
You can say that... First I had 45 minutes of footage... Then I cut it down to 30... then 12... then 10.. then 8... And then my brother helped getting it down to 6 minutes and we kind of felt we had a good flow.
It was gonna be shown at a leadership conference in Copenhagen, so we knew that people would actually sit down and watch the 6 minutes.
But I realise that for an online version I should have maybe cut it down even more :)
I'd probably say 3 minutes myself :P

I'm actually not sure about the shutter. I think she used around 1/100 if I'm not mistaken.

I think everyone above has covered the main points of feedback. Colour was great, and it looked great, but the micro shakes get a bit annoying (yeah, it adds to the raw feel, but I still think if you chucked the camera on the tripod, it'd make the video seem better). Also if you could cut it to a max of 3 minutes, that'd keep everyone's attention. I didn't lose interest in the video, but I did start thinking around 5 mins that it was a bit long. People will sit through it at a leadership conference, but they will probably enjoy it more and give it their entire attention if it's short, sharp and to the point. More b-roll so we can see what your church atmosphere is like would be good to. We got some glimpses of your church, but it would be nice to see a bit more (and from different angles).

Good work and God bless with your future media projects!
