Ordered in the UK

Well, I've done it! I've put down a deposit on the HVX200 here in the UK.

ProActive (www.proav.co.uk) are selling for £3750 with no P2 cards. The 4GB P2 cards are £430 a piece. At the moment they're being told early March by Panasonic UK (which will probably turn out to be April!).

I've got a shoot the first week of April... but I have a gut feeling I'll be using my trusty DVX100s for that one...

Congrats,

I've placed my deposit here from the beginning of January and I've been told the exact same range of dates, right now I despise the word april, it just doesn't sound right, March 30th would've sounded better :).

I've also heard that PAL demos may come mid-february, we'll see...

I would never have the guts to order blind, but I think I am going with an HD101 now anyway. Are you going to VideoForum Alex?

If your HVX doesn't come through in time, I may be able to help you out with my HD101 if you want. I would like to test it on some narrative work.

I placed an order for a PAL unit way back in August Last year, then Panasonic shifted the goal posts saying the PAL unit was now shipping early 2006 and not the envisioned later 2005. Oh, Well. All good things come to those that wait, I've only been waiting six months.

I've been told I'll be one of the very first people in the UK if not THE FIRST to take delivery of one of the bloody things when they arrive on our shores.

The £3,750 must be without VAT. £4,406 inc =$7,692 no P2 cards.
2 4 gig P2 cards =$1,300 from the states (I take it there are no difference between P2 cards for NTSC or PAL)

Total $8,992.

Now THAT is quite comparable if correct and would save a trip to the USA.

Yes that's the price without VAT. I'm regsitered for VAT, anyway, so it doesn't make much difference to me. (I know that's no consolation for those who aren't registered for VAT, though!)

I was planning to go down, I've got to finish a particularly graphics intensive edit by the end of the week, for a DVD that teaches kids African Body Percussion - so it's pretty unlikely that I'll get to go... which is a shame because there may well be a HVX200 there!

I'm guessing you're going as it's in your neck of the woods?

Thanks very much for the offer, but the shoot is in Turkey - so its not particularly local! And I don't think the budget will stretch to another flight

But thanks anyway. I'll bear you in mind if anything else comes up in the meantime!

Just looked through the attendees of Video Forum and Panasonic is not one of them. Sony should be showing their new HD 2/3 chip cameras though. I will be going either tomorrow or Wednesday, so if I see a HVX200 i will report it here.

You're right! Panasonic doesn't seem to be there. Shame!

I'm quite intrigued to see B&H is on the list. I didn't think they'd pick up enough UK business to make them want to exhibit.

I'm also very interested to see the Sony XDCAM HDs...

wow mr alex the cost is 3750 in uk? thats 3x the exchange rate to my country

£3750(GBP) is approx $6500(USD). Which is pretty close to the $6000 price that people like EVS and BH are selling for in the US.

If you can get three HVX200s for $6500 I'd either be very impressed, or I'd want to know which truck they fell off the back of.

I phoned Proav after I saw your post and spoke to Nick. He is fairly new and could only say between 3500 and 4000. Last time I called I spoke to the boss who seems a very nice guy. Nick said that P2 cards would start at £800 plus VAT, so I won't be buying them there!

I don't think we will have the same problems here as in the USA with long waiting lists. They said it will be available from next month.

I see that B&H are there. very interesting. If they can sell at Proav at their web prices I had better bring some large bags with me!

Hmmm....

They actually phoned Panasonic while I was on hold so they could give me a price. £3750 was what he said so I put a deposit down right there. He also said £430 for the 4GB cards, so I don't know where £800 comes from...

Heh! Heh! I wonder if B&H are going to bring any HVX200P's with them?

Well I am definately going tomorrow so I will be on the lookout.

The guy I spoke to at ProAV wasn't the most clued up and asked if I wanted to wait and speak to the boss but I didn't bother. At least if I like what I see I hopefully won't have the long waits plaguing our US shooters.

Alex, I have never been to Video Forum before. Is there a load of kit for sale or is it more play with and order? Not sure whether to get a tube in from Richmond or drive to Earls Court and try to park. Is there parking available at Earls Court 2?

Hey Steve, I've probably missed you as you're probably at the show already! I don't know about parking 'cause I've always got the Tube there. The show is mostly stuff to play with, but there are some goodies to be had... especially if you like brochures!

Anyway, let us know how it went.

Hi Alex

I was at Video Forum today and they were doing a show offer of £3500 (Cam, no cards) with H Preston (so the panasonic Rep said). Dunno if that helps, but they said after that it would be £3900. Shipping in 3 weeks according to Pana...

HI darkline, was it you I met today? Think it was! (with the two other guys)

Yep I put a £500 deposit down with Prestons today at the show special price of £3500 +VAT. It ships March 31st. (from the Panasonic rep)

There are 170 HVX200's coming into the UK in the first shipment. Prestons said that anyone ordering now would definately get one of the first batch. If you are going to order, give them a call and mention the show price. They should honor it at the shop.

They had two HVX200's at the show, both NTSC demo versions. Played about with it and I love the focus assist.

So its the equivelent of $7,169 plus cards. very comparable.

Well this is good news, seems like the UK prices that were previously mentioned were wrong!

I can stop moaning about Panasonic now!
