Ordered HMC from B&H

I ordered an HMC from B&H earlier this week and the camera is on back order. First, has anyone had experience with this and perhaps know an estimated time it'll be until my order is shipped? I've emailed them and asked if they know how long it'll be, but it might be a while for them to respond. And second, the rebate is good as long as I purchased the camera before March 31st and since B&H charged me for my order already, I should be in the clear, correct? Unfortunately, the rebate says

"All claims must be postmarked before April 15, 2009."

I assume this means I must send out the rebate info before April 15? I just hope I can get the camera before then. So is anyone else in the same position as me, or have been in a similar position? How long should it be until the camera is shipped and would I still be eligible for the rebate?

go get one at spec-com.

just bought a expanded battery at spec-com. prompt and fast shipping.

I just wish i could easily switch my option to buy in paypal.

The main reason I didn't buy from them was the lack of a paypal option. I had 95% of the money for the HMC in my paypal balance.

I believe some don't offer PayPal because it does cost the merchant extra money.

I don't know how that compares to CC, but it's an extra percentage to transfer.

I believe it is 2.9% downward depending on the amount of the purchase.

Hi Tomiger,

I'm in your exact situation, too. I placed my order last Monday, but before I did I called and asked the following questions:
  • When will the HMC150 be back in stock? Sometime "next week", implying before Fri Mar 27
  • Can I cancel my order? You can cancel your order before it is shipped without penalty
  • Will I be eligible for the rebate? Since the order was placed before 3/31, yes, still elegible as long as it's postmarked by 4/15.

They're closed today, but customer service opens at 10am tomorrow so I'm going to call and ask what the status is.

I was going to order HMC and TorchLED from Spec-Comm until I saw their $100 handling fee for the HMC. So then I just ordered the HMC from Amazon with free shipping. Ordered on March 12th, camera arrived on March 16th..

I don't know why everyone is hung up on B&H, amazon really is the way to go for ordering the hmc! i ordered mine on a saturday morning, and got it on monday. for free. no waiting or BS at all.

I agree! I've been a long time BH customer but if they don't have certain things in stock, there is no need to stick with them.

I'll stick with B&H, thank you very much.

So you're saying they're bad because they sold all their inventory and had to wait for another shipment. Oh my Gawd!! The nerve of those people!

With the recent audio issues, I no longer care to get this cameras ASAP. I can wait.

Every vendor has merits and with B and H.. when it's in stock you can guarantee that you'll get it delivered when they say it will. I ordered an HV20 back a year or two ago.. got it and there was a dead pixel. I contacted B and H. They covered the shipping back to them.. Mailed out a new HV20 and it arrived the day after I sent off the other one.. and they included a gift card, an HV20 users DVD, and a free cleaning kit with a sincere apology note attached. They did me right and have a lot of times.. But there are exceptions.

Remember when they were selling Gray market HVX200's without their knowledge.. That was a bungle and I've read of others having trouble.. but I absolutely love them when I need something.

Amazon has been good for the most part. I have had issues with some vendors on their though and it's caused me to give them a B for overall rating. A lot of the other vendors on here have been a little more cavalier when I've contacted them and that doesn't make me want to deal with them.. The vendor I bought mY HVX off... and a lot of other people.. has kind of dropped the ball on a few recent purchases and I can't endorse them anymore. In fact, they were trying to charge for that rebate of the battery and such as if it were not a Free promotion.. That's just sucky business there.

Go ahead and unwad your panties, I'm just saying I've seen a ton of these threads saying how they ordered from B&H and have to wait, etc... and I simply pointed out that if you have to make the purchase online, why not just get it from somewhere you don't have to wait on backorder?

Read the rebate form

Read the rebate form

In tiny letters, at the bottom of the form, it says "purchased through an authorized Panasonic Broadcast US Reseller".

I'm not sure Amazon is, but I do know B&H (and spec-comm) are authorized US resellers.

If Panasonic wants to be sticklers, they can force that requirement to prevent grey market cameras from getting the rebate.

I ordered mine on the 24th of February (it was 'in stock' that morning but not by the time I ordered) and I received it on the 16th of March so about three weeks.

Good luck... I believe that B&H is worth the wait, I can order everything I need from one place and deal with one group of people that have been standup guys. I have purchased over 25k worth of gear from them and I haven't had a single issue except for the out of stock thing.

I really don't mind waiting; like everyone has said, I've dealt with B&H several times and I just like ordering from them. The only thing I am worried about is getting it before April 15th. As long as I can get it before that, I don't really mind the wait.

I am not complaining about the wait; I was just wondering how long it typically takes and if anyone else was in the same situation as me (and I got the info I needed thanks to TigerFX.) I didn't mean to turn it into an "argument."

Oh well, it doesn't really matter anymore. I already paid BH and I don't want to complicate anything with refunding, etc. Thanks for the heads up.

I don't get your sentiment.. unless you're just sitting around without an urgent need for the camera, then u might as well sit around and wait until NAB to see what new cameras gets announced. For people like myself who has an urgent need to get the camera and/or to qualify for the rebate and allow enough time for the free battery to come so I don't have to spend more $$$ on another battery, it makes no sense to wait for BH's stock to come in.

I suggest you continue to sit around and continue to wait, if I had no need for the HMC, I would wait as well.
