or Sony RX10: What we've been looking for from Panasonic?

My take on the RX10. A throwback to my GH2 UnBox Xtreme video :)

I realize this isn't the best footage, and certainly doesn't shine the codec in the best light, but I have to say this is a fun little camera and have certainly been pleased with the shots I've been able to get, especially given its price. The lens and the price point are what made me pull the trigger and get the RX10. Yes, I came really close to returning it after seeing how the codec handled fast action and some other operational quirks (no intervalometer, CIZ not same as ETC, slow zoom speed, etc), but I had to be honest with myself and realize that for the price, it does an EXCELLENT job for what it is, and for MY clients (family, personal projects, the occasional paid gig), is good enough that I can put together an edit with imagery that they can enjoy.

Yes, that is why I got it….
You don't have to touch the camera to zoom or to start stop.
You can also shoot stills with it and turn the camera on and off.

Wow! Very cool. I just got my Sony RX10. I wish I would have realized that before I left the states for a few months. :(

Or maybe Sony will update the phone app so it can control the start and stop recording on the Sony RX.

Thanks for the tip.

given the title of the thread what we have been looking for from panasonic , where does the rx10 now stand with respect to gh4?

1 with respect to the gh4 generally without the addon "chunky" as it has been called by one poster on m43rumours.
2 with respect to the gh4 if you already own the panny 12-35.

discloser-recently purchased rx10 and own panny 12-35.

I think the main thing is still going to be price. You'll still have to spend more for the equivalent setup lense-wise with Panasonic. Plus, still no internal ND filter. Now, VALUE, I think the GH4 is gonna be too tempting not to spend the extra cash for an incredible setup.

more discloser-have a large set of nd filters with xume magnetic adapters.

with rx10 there is just one lens 24 to 200 35equiv, with the gh4 the panny 35 to 100 (70 -200 35equiv) would be another chunk of change.

Panasonic's GH4 presents some impressive specs, especially relative to alternative codecs. However, the release 4K demo detail is unimpressive compared to Sony's AX100. Hopefully, we'll see better with time.

GH4 4K Demo: Only the last time-lapse clip has impressive detail because it is assembled from stills.

Sony AX100 4K Demo: WOW!

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony announces/ships an RX10MII with the same 4k recording modes as the AX100 before Panasonic ships the GH4.

that would be my dream and presumably the mii or whatever they call it would cut well together with mark the first assuming the optics wouldn't change. have to start dreaming up multi camera shoots. I get a raise this year when I start collecting old age security.

Yeah, this will be a tough one. Initial I ordered the AX100 but cancelled. I think this time I will look at more
enduser videos before deciding on a 4K setup. I have a GH2 but only use it on my jib arm with my 7-14,
or on occasion I will strap it on my SUV and get moving Motor Home shots.
I use the Sony RX10 for day in day out video and I am very happy with it's quality.
