Ok two tests here. All footage is ungraded. This is the RX10 on the Defy G5. There are two shots flying the C100 as well. The RX10 was set to continuous AF the whole time. Never touched or treated focus at once while on the G5.

Nevermind the glitch in one of the shots. It's not in the original video. I think vimeo did that
Not that it matters since I already ordered one, but my main concern is whether it is better than the gh2 (unhacked). I was pretty happy with the image coming out of the Gh2 even though it had its limitations. Also, have you guys had a chance to try any crop modes? It was great in the gh2 and stabilizer work because you could work with 2 focal lengths without needing to rebalance. Like others have mentioned, thanks all you guys for your work and help with these initial evaluations.
Happy Thanksgiving kids!
Happy Thanksgiving kids! Shot this where I spend the the day and is a total torture test for any digital camera.

And again, I let the camera focus in continuous AF the entire day.
starting to dive into my rx10 as well and all i can say for the moment is that it's just fun, there's tons of stuff in it, and that might be the main complaint is the vast depths of menu settings, but nothing that isn't manageable.
now, if you fellas haven't tried it yet, you best get out your smartphone/tablet and connect with the playmemories app and start really giggling when you see you can control the zoom with LIVE preview from said wireless device
and unlike the gopro, that live preview is pretty darn close to LIVE, LIVE, like, within a few frames.
A definite step above the the GH2 in image and feature set.
That one was right up your alley isn't it, Mark? I was surprised that the camera held it together down in the creek with all the tree roots and branches. Plus, this was shot during twilight so I was shooting at 640-1250 ISO at 2.8 to f/4. I used the deep profile that everyone keeps recommending. Like I said, camera was in continuous AF the entire time and only used Standard Stabilize shooting the food.Very nice. This is the type sample that I was hoping to see.

Yes so far i've mostly been scrutinizing the CIZ, and the power zoom stuff, and the CIZ is implemented pretty well and performs about as well as i think could be hoped for.
I like that CIZ isn't just a on/off thing, when you activate it, it's like digital zoom on a P/S, as you zoom in, it uses the optical, and when it reaches the end it kicks into the digital zoom. the one imperfection is that they didn't quite match the speed of the lens zoom to the downsample, so it isn't like you can get a perfect 24-200 zoom in/out. though perhaps there is some tinkering that might improve on that.
I also read that the smooth aperture ring is NOT creating a smooth ramp, and i did verify this, the aperture isn't quite a smooth open/close even though the interface feels smooth. It's not as bad as click in step,s but it's not as smooth as a real stepless aperture. i found that a faster ramp will look smoother than a slower ramp. I don't ramp much at all, so not a biggie for me.
The single thing that has me knowing this is the only camera in town for me at this point in time is the power zoom, it just doesn't exist at this price/performance anywhere else, at the moment its still taking a bit of figuring out to see what speeds/methods do what, but the slow zoom in/out is just beautiful. something that is good but not quite perfect is the slope of the start/stop of the power zoom, it DOES ease into the start/stop a bit, but i do wish it did a bit more, but it's perfectly acceptable to me and i know i can probably use warp to fine tune it even more.
and i'm just going to go ahead and own up to my not being able to figure out how to flip the damn thing into manual focus mode for a solid 30 minutes. we canon folk just don't expect that front facing flip switch!
