Open Source Firmware

Considering that this camera is meant to be serviceable by the end-user, even down to a user-replaceable image sensor, releasing the firmware's source to the community would seem to compliment the Red philosophy.

Developers and Red users could enhance and customize the default firmware which would accomplish several things at the same time:

1) Help the Red team squash firmware bugs and add new features more quickly
2) Customized firmwares would be released back to the user community for further enhancement and/or use by other Red cam users
3) Several different variations of the firmware could be made available for different groups of users requiring specialization in certain areas for their use of the camera (e.g. increase frame rates at lower resolutions if that is the priority for a set of users)
4) Community involvement in the the success of the camera
