OnLocation Avid workflow?

I would like to record with OnLocation CS3 to HDD in 720p50 (or if not possible 720p25) and work with the clip in Avid.

What do I have to set in the HVX200 setup menu to output HD via FW?
Which format do I use to record in CS3 (AVI or QT)?
Do I have to set anything else in OnLOcation?

What type of project do I need in Avid to work with the clips?

As long as you do not use PN mode, output via FW is automatic.

DEpends on which editor. I'm guessing if you use Avid, you want AVI (I use FCP). I would do some testing before you get on the set.

The format shouldn't matter to Avid. You should decide which to use based on what else you might be doing with the footage. Are you working in Windows and may want to use the footage in other apps? Use AVI. Is it possible you may send this footage to someone on a Mac? Use QT.

Just a heads up if you need the meta data you loose it when converting to avi or mov.

Not sure but there is a possiblity ray light can retain the meta data if you use that program?

Maybe it´s a 25p problem? Which exact format did you capture in OnLocation with? (and which recording format was the HVX set to?)

I tried to live-capture 720p50 via FW with Avid (MC 3.0 in capture mode, MXF, 720p50 project) and didn´t get any audio. What is wrong?

I have an ntsc camera, I remember I had to use the auto configure for the input device and it decided on ntsc100 and everything worked fine. That was 1080 not 720. I have never tried 720, want me to fire my avid up and see if I can get it to work in 720 ntsc?

Your avid is set for a 25p 720 project?

I tried 720p50 in Avid MC 3.0 and didin´t get any sound, only picture.
In a 1080p25 project I couldn`t capture at all: "wrong format".

Did you capture 1080i or 1080p?
Thanks

1080i but that shouldn't matter if you have avid set for the format your camera is set to out put.

You changed the camera to record in 1080i or p? One of the setting for the camera won't output through the fire wire.

I'm booting up my avid right now.

Ok,

I think I know what your problem is.

You have to select the "V" button on the capture tool for the video which you must have done but then you have to select the audio tracks you want to capture, there are 4 that say A1, A2, A3, A4 I do get a wierd buzz if I select 3 & 4 if there is no audio output from the camera to them.

Hang on and I'll try to capture in 720 24p

thanks, but I did select the V button in the capture tool, as well as the A1 and A2 track. A3 and A4 cant be selcted, I guess due to 1394 restrictions. Can you selct them A3 and A4?

I´ll try 1080i now...

I could not get anything to work for 720 but had no problem in 1080i.

Gotta run for a couple hours.

in 1080i50 I get picture and can select A1-4, but I cant playback the clip. I get an audio error: failed to set DIO audio sample rate.
What is your audio setting 48khz or 44khz?

I forgot if the hvx is 48 or 44khz but I'm sure that's your problem for the audio error.

Any luck yet? In 720 24p it thinks I now have a 25p pal camera. I am on version 2.8 and not 3.0.

Are you definatly able to live capture HD picture and sound in 1080i? I tried changing my audio project settings to 44 and 48Khz and still didnt get any sound.
I think I will make this an issue with Avid, because MC 3.0 is not properly working.
Any input on other possible wrong settings appreciated.

Yes,

No problems here with version 2.8 capturing 1080i, both audio and video are fine.

Are you on a mac or pc? I'm on a pc

Is your computer avid certified? Could be a driver problem with your fire wire port?
