One step closer to the matrix.

I'd like to get into the mind of the event producer who decided to send a camera operator into the middle of the stage through most of her talk for a repetitive shot of the speaker with a darkened audience in front of her. Fail.

I can see the potential for disabled people.

For us with reasonable motor skills and ability I don't see any advantage.

Try playing a piano with your mind. Now if it progresses that far where I can turn my musical thoughts into recorded audible music in the way that I imagine it, now we're talking cool.

Disabled or semi(?) disabled people though, yeah, I can see a lot of possibilites there.

Oh man, I would love to be able to use this with After Effects.

I would love to use this with Final Cut. The truth is I've gotten so proficient at the program the biggest lag is me having to physically manipulate the mouse and keys. If I could edit as fast as I could think I'd be a machine.

inspiring, imagine what that could do for the paralyzed, or remote surgery thousands of miles away.

I never thought about the adult entertainment industry but now that you mention it, I suppose it is difficult playing porn video games with one hand. ;)

What would be really exciting though would be if you could not only read brainwaves, but write them as well.

Imagine the possibilities! I would easily get my minions to steal me one of those for my underground lair.

You mean like playing back previously recorded thoughts directly to your brain?

Right now they technically could save the patterns since it's already's been converted to data when it's read.
I suppose in time they might be a able to play them back to a headset and restimulate those same thought patterns, maybe.

Have you ever seen the movie Brainstorm? I liked it. I thought it was cool.

No I mean like, if everyone would wear those things while online (let's face it, that''s where this is headed one way or another), and if those things could not just read a persons brainwaves and let him operate virtual objects and appliances like RC helicopters, wheelchairs, curtains, lights etc - if those things could also write brainwaves, they could be hacked into and people could be used as puppets.

Btw Brainstorm's been on TCM a number of times, and I've always wanted to see it but I keep turning it on halfway through. That, and Westworld. I need to buy those DVDs.

WestWorld was a good one too.

The movie Surrogates
has something a little similiar to what your saying but their minds ran robots instead of being online. I suppose it was 'online' in a way. They could also be hacked into an killed via the headset although not quite in the way your suggesting.

Yeah I didn't see Surrogates, heard it wasn't really that good.
Too bad. Cyberpunk rocks.

I'm thinking a little more like Ghost in the Shell though.

This is great for video games and the disabled. Everything else is just another step to becoming a lazy fat society. Wireless devices just makes things easier but perhaps too easy. Now you don't even have to press a button, just think it. How many calories does that burn?

It seems our society is becoming a more connected society. Internet has flooded our lives. Now with smartphones we can connect anywhere anyway. If this becomes a consumer item, eventually we'll be connecting to the world by just thinking, and perhaps sharing these thoughts to other people at our leisure.

Well, it does seem to require a lot of focus to run these things so maybe it'll at least train users to focus their thoughts better.

I honestly hope it can't turn your thoughts into something tangible on a computer. If I thought, okay, I want giant robots attacking LA...and poof! Exactly what I thought is created in 3dsmax or after effects. That would actually be the worst.

If it still requires the skills, and it just translates your thoughts into button pushes, then I'd be okay with it.
