One last stupid question...

I wonder how many did edit in a 29.97 time line ?

I shot in 24pn and would rather try 24pa instead .
Come April I'll have enough for Vegs 6 + DVD . Almost $700 ..OUCH but it'll be worth it in the long run.

Aram Bauman . I also shot in squeeeze mode and I had the same problem on my old 4.3 until I changed the settings in the DVD player to LB .
then it played letterboxed OK .

I shot in 24pa. Had trouble with the pulldown removal in fcp (did it in cinema tools instead).

I'd certainly recommend it, especially if special effects are involved. I remember trying to work with 24pn at 29.97. The interlaced frames are bitingly annoying if you don't know what you're doing (like me).

Ariel, I wonder too.

I don't have any desire to go to a 23.976 timeline... have no desire not to either... I'm a bit ambivalent about it right now. I've never had a NEED for it... but that doesn't mean I won't. We've kinda grown into our equipment slowly, so maybe the need for it is now starting to present itself. My wallet doesn't exactly need to feel that pain though! LOL

Wcs... When it comes to special effects, well I've still got a lot to learn :) -- So far, my limitations haven't been due to the use of 29.97 but more because of software limitations... both in possession and skill! LOL

If it's 16:9, upload the anamorphic (stretched) version. If it's wider than 16:9, you'd still upload a 16:9 anamorphic, but letterboxed.
Well, since no one answered my posts, I have no idea how to properly convert my 4:3 letterboxed (no squeeze) footage to a "zoomed-in" flagged 16:9 version within Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 for Windows. I have a 0.9 standard DV pixel aspect ratio file with a 4:3 image masked with black bars on the top and bottom of the frame.

Second problem: I can burn a DVD from Premiere Pro 1.5, but Premiere has NO option to write a high quality MPEG stream to a disk file. The big (I'm assuming, "muxed," but maybe not) file on the DVD is a ".VOB" file.

Am I the ONLY person who's editing in Premiere and shot 4:3 letterbox with a non-A DVX100 here? I can't be the ONLY person confused about this.

I think I saw it . . . I tried to create a 16:9 timeline, but the pixel aspect ratio is wrong. Well, of course it's wrong. I shot 4:3 letterbox with no squeeze (DVX100 non-A models CAN'T squeeze). How do you correctly rescale the pixel aspect ratio to widescreen 1.2? I don't know how to "zoom" by exactly by 133% since Premiere Pro for Windows uses an arbitrary nomenclature for zoom values in camera control. I still can't believe I'm the only one with this problem.

Let me see if this is right - is it 24PN needs to be edited on 30FPS timeline, but 24PA needs to be edited on 24FPS timeline? Maybe?

Penfever,

From what I understand, if you plan to edit in a 29.97 fps timeline, but what the look for 24P, pick the 24p (normal) mode.

If you plan to edit in a 23.976 fps timeline, pick the 24pa (advanced) mode.

But since I've only been editing in 29.97, I'm no expert

one more stupid question: so letterbox 4:3 is out or should i crop the letterbox off and export as a 16:9 file?

thanks

I believe you are right. 4:3 is NG. You need to create a 16:9 (stretched) anamorphic file.
