Olympic Opening Ceremony

it cost a tremendous amount of money, but then again the production budget for spiderman 3 was something like 250 million. overall the ceremony was excellent, a great blend of old chinese artistry with new world technology. money well spent. :)

Dog! (Like the pic :))

I was thinking about the same thing earlier!

Most hollywierd movies have a larger budget...

I guess money goes really far in china!

How about the drums they found that were 500 years old B.C. that they incorporated? That was freakin' awesome!

Those hydraulic pillar things were just stupendous. And when will I be able to get a 500-foot LED screen?

But why oh why oh why oh why do the cameramen do that?

Not just there. Everywhere. Anything staged.

Things are choreographed/designed/perormed to be seen as whole, from a bit of a distance.

And the cameramen zoom in, ruining 80% of it. Ever watch a juggler on tv? The guys got 17 flaming handgrenades in the air, and the camera is zoomed in on his left nostril.

Watched the opening...until they pissed me off too much. I could see we were missing fairly significant things.

Just to let you know those weren't hydralic pillar things. Those were actual people doing the pillars!

Well, I did see the people pop out at the end, but I thought the announcer (Costas) said it was a combo of hydraulics and people. It just looked to computer-controlled-perfect to be just people. Although with everything else they did that night, I shouldn't be too surprised.

That was the most amazing show I have ever seen. I liked Costa's line, something like "when it comes to olympic openings, you can retire the trophy".

I seriously doubt if I'll ever see something like that again. What a show!

That was insane. Wow.

"Lift this box at the exact right times or you will be shot". No seriously, very impressive.

Personally... I could only take so much of it. If you've seen one guy banging on a drum, you've seen them all! I now understand why there's so much pollution, it's all the fireworks. Another thing that bugged me was the constant explanation of every detail of every aspect of every performance. Everything was very well done though...just way too long (for me...).

...now, on with the games!

Canadians are next for the 2010 Olympics, but we have only $25 bucks for our opening ceremony and that's just for hot dogs :) Maybe we'll have a few dancing totem poles made out of Big Mac boxes!

There are better versions of the Beijing opening ceremonies, the BBC version in HD had cameras everywhere with good widescreen composition. There are Chinese versions too, haven't seen those yet.

For a glimmer of a second, I saw some of the clips on YouTube, but then the account got suspended. I wanted my daughter to see them, but nope.

Thailand cable doesnt have a program listing in English, so I randomly flip through the stations trying to find the Olympics. I watched almost half an hour of what I thought were part of the Olympics, but it turned out it was Asian Games 1998. Cross-dressers (or girlie boys) were singing and dancing and I was thinking "this just CAN'T be it".

It wasn't.
