Hi, trying to buy 2.0 from a college discount site. Premiere 2.0 display window isn't clear if its academic or regular retail version. Email site asking which it is, here's what I get...

ME:I'm looking for a full retail version of adobe premiere pro 2.0.
http://www.campustech.com/c/campust...oo&utm_medium=ppc&utm_term=adobe+premiere+pro
is that a full version or academic version?

THEM:
Adobe’s “academic” software is full-version.

ME: But you can't make money off of using 'academic' right?

THEM:
Actually, Adobe has no restrictions on the usage of their academic software. You just have to meet their academic standards to make the purchase.

This doesn't sound right, does this guy know what he's talking about? Note the price is just $300 something.

If Adobe doesn't restrict your usage (you have a representation from one of their employees that they don't) and you qualify for the purchase (based upon their own standards), then I would go for it!

I paid retail, so $300 is an incredible deal!

Usually the only difference between the academic and retail versions is that the academic version does not include any third party plug ins that Adobe would have to pay a license fee to include. I'm not sure which those would be in PPro2.0 maybe the Keylight keyer, in 1.5 it meant you didn't get all of the CC filters.

Also another thing that Adobe does that is great is that you can upgrade from the Acedemic version to the retail version for the regular upgrade price.

That's nice to know. I always thought you can't upgrade the academic versions.

It is the same exact program and bundles. I bought it through our local College and the difference is that you CAN'T upgrade because the academic price is lower or about the same. You also CAN'T buy more than 1 per year.

Yes you can upgrade. Not only did I upgrade from the academic version of Primere 6.5 it qualified me to upgraded to the professional suite for around $350 - $450 [I don't remember the exact price but it was very reasonable.]

Its a bit confusing but after several calls, Adobe customer support was very good, I even got the free goodies you get when you rehister the software.

Oh, sorry but I ordered the Dreamweaver website bundle this week and read that I couldn't upgrade. Besides it's cheaper to get the academic version. Maybe you can upgrade from academic to non?

Yep, it seems that as I read that link you can get out of the educational version and get the upgrade price. I wouldn't but I don't need more than 1 copy per year......yet.

I have been buying the suites and get the goodies also. I love the Training series videos.

I paid about $630 for the Premiere Suite.
