Official "I am a jelous Canon user" GH2 thread

Story of my life. I need one of these. I would have sold my 60D for one if my internship didn't require a lot of photography work. So tempting to buy one as a second camera dedicated to video work. The worst thing about it is that I totally have the money to buy one, but I have to buy boring audio equipment and a Steadicam Merlin instead because I kind of need those a thousand times more then a second camera :(

Somebody tell me something bad about this camera so I feel a little better :)

edit. And of course I spell jealous wrong...

It has banding problems with large areas of one color, such as blue sky. It's the only thing I don't like about my two GH2s.

People forget that the GH2 is a stills camera first. Do you really need canon for the work that you're doing?

It can't take advantage of my Tokina 11-16 wide lens to get that unique distorted perspective look :(

Well don't get the Merlin...get a cheaper stabilizer like a glide cam 4000hd...what audio equipment do you need? The 4000 is a much more versatile stabilizer.

really I was on the fence as well but come to this conclusion. Have you shot anything significant with the camera you already? If not, I would say don't fall into the camera chasing until you have made the one you have already do amazing things.

Well for PAL users, there's no 25p. I would've bought the GH2 and a bunch of micro 4/3rds lenses to compliment my GH1 and set of vintage glass, but no 25p is a big deal because now it wouldn't match my GH1. So I sold the GH1, bought a 550D and a bunch of lenses and am currently waiting for it to arrive in the post.

The 60D build quality is superior.
No 1080 25p on the Lumix GH2.
The 60D has an amazing LCD screen the Gh2 LCD screen isn't good enough.
60D has manual audio levels.
But you can be a little jealous cause the image quality of the LUMIX is simply better  and the skin tones of course.

The continuous banding problem is the only reason I don't have a GH2 in my hands. Panasonic's consumer division is pissing me off. I've bought a micro 4/3 lens, batteries and adapters for it, but I won't get one until the banding is fixed - if this ever happens. It's the camera that could've been, but it's not happening now. I've been thinking about going back to Canon lately until there is something better.

but i gathered (from replies around here) that this specific banding problem is universal for all DSLRs

I had a GH1 and it had fpn. I lost money from it. I vouched never to buy another GH1 again. I was looking forward to the GH2 and it sounded really good!!! But now after three month of waiting, a group of people who just got a March shipment starts up the old thread about banding. Annoying when I was ready to go get one soon. But I appreciate the reviews and feedback here-hopefully there will be a fix.

I don't know about banding on the Canon. Maybe I read somewhere it can happen under "certain" conditions, but I didn't see as much attention about them as on the GH cameras.

What banding? Do you mean the single band that appeared in underexposed light from a few months back? I've had my new GH-2 for the last two weeks now...and I don't seem to have that problem. Are you talking about the posterization that happens with just about every 8bit camera out there? I have not had a problem with that either (not saying it doesn't happen).

he meant the sky posterization.. i now see it on lots of shots. not just skies, but also on a lot of gradient color shifts.
you guys were very decisive that's the 8 bit way (which means- unprofessional and ugly)..
congrats on your GH2 btw.. finally.

I've seen the posterization on my 5D as well, but definitely more on the GH13. Overall Canons seem to handle gradients better
