OFFICIAL A1 Custom Presets thread

Here's a preset that I made combining Vision3 and Panalook2. It has a natural quality but is also very cinematic and rich.

PANAVIS3

Gamma: Cine2
Knee: Low
Black: Press
Master Ped: -9
Setup: -9
Sharpness: 4
HDF: High
DHV: 0
COR: 0
NR1: off
NR2: off
Color Matrix: Cine1
Color Phase: 0
Color Gain: -4
RGN: 8
GGN: 11
BGN: 12

-everything else is set to 0

panavision 3 huh? Wasn't aware you made number 1 and 2.

heh, just pulling your leg.

Blacks are a little too crushed in my opinion. Otherwise there really is no big difference. Just a tad greener.

I tried PanaFilm and it's so noisy and bluried despite the high sharpening.
I think i will go back to Vision04 with PaPa's best skin color management and try it. It's so clean...

Panavision preset DVD export noise

Panavision preset DVD export noise

Ive been through this thread so many times and do believe after trying Panavision to be a seriously fantastic preset - well done Papa and thanks , the color and shadows are great. Although after doing an edit yesterday at 1080p and exporting to DVD progressive I did notice a huge increase in noise. Any advise on this? Should I drop the sharpness? Has anyone else experienced this? The footage was shot during a sunny day and DB was at 0. :dankk2:

Could you post an example?

I must appologise as it would seem that the problem lies with me(not the first and I dare say not the last!)! Im working with the Cineform codec and also their Premiere preset in CS3. The problem seems to be that by default the working colorspace enviroment in Cineform HDV is 4:4:4. They recommend that it be de-activated when exporting as was not the case when I posted. Ive done it again and all seems great. Thanks for your concern and again for the great preset.

some more footage of Panavision...crap thing was, it was late in the day, and i still had my polarizer on my lens, probably turned a bit, because the colors were a bit thick, so i did about a 40% saturation reduction, and while what you see is a bit washed out, i think i like it...hopefully you will too...also looks darker than intended due to Vimeo's encode...hope you like

Hello all, I just recently entered into the world of independent film making with my acquisition of the Canon XH-A1 (No Complaints yet) but I do have a few questions for your experts here at DVX user. I plan on making documentaries and short films, but mostly the latter. Here are my questions:

1. I have multiple tripods lying around my home, however, I need a tripod that can pan and tilt fluidly and without any hiccups. Any suggestions? Is there a great tripod under two-hundred bucks that does this well? If I said fluid 2-way head would I be correct?

2. I've heard a lot about the dangers of using the camera's playback. Are these substantial claims? Will it kill the heads? Is it smart to move my footage onto my computer (via firewire)?

and the why I posted this in the Custom Preset Thread ----->

3. Alright, my head is about to explode. After countless hours of reading, messing with posted presets (most of which are awesome btw), and comparing and contrasting footage with that of my other cameras...I can say I've almost "got it."

What I'm asking now is that someone (if so inclined too) compiles a variety of the 18 best presets into one single post (Either for download or for manual insertion).

For someone fairly new to the forums (I've been a spectator for months, and finally made an account) this would be an invaluable resource.

You guys are awesome...I can't wait to be an active part of such an incredible community.

absolutely beautiful. Great way to show off the preset.

thank you for checking it out Papa...i realize i'm going to have to get skin tones as well, but for now, i'm happy shooting nature...we'll see

Can you still post an example?

Ive just reloaded Windowzzzzze XP! Haha, for the millionth time!. Will do when alls back to normal. It would seem that a 4:4:4 color space(millions+) seems to be too "potent" for DVD PAL mpeg export from HDV edit! Im not very clued up on this. Thats the reason why this forum is so important to me as I find video color correction to be a incredably painful experience and can never get it "right on the cash". Im happy just playing with saturation, contrast, brightness & a little curves.

@skinny! Great footage  . Verrry creative . Im also into the nature shots. Is that shot in Canon F progressive? Thanks
