Sorry for my ignorance, but could someone tell me how to upload custom presets from my computer to my XH-A1? I have no clue...

Thanks

35mm Film Look?

First, grab the Excel spreadsheet with all of the Custom Preset file info. It's called XH-CPF-20061204. Then get the eighteen .CPF files and copy them to an SD card in a folder called PRESET. Insert the card into your camera and you're good to go. The procedure for calling up the presets is detailed in your operator's manual on page 81.

PRESET01.CPF "FACTORY" is simply the Canon factory default settings.
PRESET02.CPF "AC PREF1" is Alister Chapman's prefered general setup.
PRESET03.CPF "AVG FILM" is designed to emulate an average film stock, best used with 24F / 25F.
PRESET04.CPF "5248FILM" is supposed to emulate Kodak 5248 film stock, best used with 24F / 25F.
PRESET05.CPF "LOWLT12" is for shooting in low light with 12db gain.
PRESET06.CPF "OPTICONT" is for optimum latitude, similar to AC PREF1.
PRESET07.CPF "5296FILM" should be like Kodak 5296 film stock, best used with 24F / 25F.
PRESET08.CPF "TERRA1" is a soft unsharpened image, shadows retain detail without looking washed out.
PRESET09.CPF "TERRA2" is like TERRA1 but sharper, with coring turned down to keep noise levels at bay.
PRESET10.CPF "DISJECTA" most resembles the colors Steven Dempsey used with his Panasonic DVX100.
PRESET11.CPF "B&WJECTA" is B&W with detail in darks without blowing out lights, no diagonal stair-stepping.
PRESET12.CPF "NOMAGENT" negates the Magenta bias that some Canon owners detect in factory settings.
PRESET13.CPF "OUTSIDEN" gives the Canon a neutral image outdoors while managing bright whites.
PRESET14.CPF "OLEGWARM" is warm and saturated and film-like when combined with Skin Detail: Middle.
PRESET15.CPF "DVXMATCH" closely matches the Panasonic DVX100 at WB of 3200K; also try Knee: Auto.
PRESET16.CPF "EOSPHOTO" is optimized for Canon EOS photo lenses; much brighter with more contrast.
PRESET17.CPF "NATURALO" closely resembles natural outdoor colors, requiring minimum correction.
PRESET18.CPF "PANALOOK" is Steven Dempsey's preffered setting which accurately emulates the DVX100.

Could anybody post the custom preset for this one:

PRESET07.CPF "5296FILM" should be like Kodak 5296 film stock, best used with 24F / 25F.

It's not allowing me to pull it up, also is Kodak 5296 film stock similar to 35mm Film. I'm just looking for the closest preset to 35mm Film possible... and please don't post it will never look like 35mm film (I already except that fact, but I'd like to be as close with A1 as possible) Thanks in advance!!!

So im not the only one here.

When first cycling through the PRESETS, i have 9, then another one pops up that allows me to go to 18.

In the menu of custom presets, i can only view 9 in the uploaded section.

whats the difference between the 9 and the 18.

the first 9 presets are the ones built in the cam, the other 18 are the ones off the card.

Vivid B

Vivid B

VIVID B is a mod of the famous VIVIDRGB preset. It's bluish, but still rendering a good skin tone.

VIVID B works better when you set the gain at -3dB and set the white balance to "preset" which produces less color noise.

All parameters but the following are identical to the VIVIDRGB preset:

Color Gain -15
Red Gain -25
Green Gain -20
Blue Gain 25
RG Matrix 0
RB matrix 0
GR matrix 0
GB matrix 0
BR matrix 0
BG matrix 0

New Preset: Vision

New Preset: Vision

Hi,
i created a new preset that seems to work very well in every situation.
I called it Vision because it's colorimetry remembers me the Kodak Vision2 (with the due respect....)

I recommend using -3dB gain and i suggest using the manual color temperature to adjust the overall look.

VivNatch preset

VivNatch preset

I am a fan of Disjecta's work in general, and his presets PANALOOK2 as well as VIVIDRGB, but wanted to develop something that exactly matched what I see in the natural world, without being too "flat."

I found Panalook2 to be nice, but the color temperature was overly cold. And VIVIDRGB was of course like candy, but was not a preset that should be considered "natural," particularly for skin tones where the reds pop big time. And the recent TRUCOLOR preset was nowhere near accurate to my eye - add me to the list of people who see a weird "blue cast."

So today I sat down in front of my Panasonic 42" HD Plasma, and developed a preset I'm calling VivNatch. It gives the most accurate color reproduction I've seen thus far on my A1; meaning, it looks very close to reality. I used only natural light, thus set white balance to the Daylight preset.

I'd be interested to hear feedback on this, because it's the first preset I've developed and posted. And I should also again acknowledge Disjecta's work. I originally built off his VIVIDRGB preset (hence the name "VivNatch") - and arrived at something quite different.

Apparently I can't upload the CPF, but here are the settings for "VivNatch":

Gamma: Cine 1
Knee: LOW
Black: MIDDLE
Mst Ped: -5
Setup: 0
Sharp: 0
H DTL: MIDDLE
DTL HV: 0

i don't know of a preset that has 70's feel, but if you watch the film Boogie Nights, P.T. Anderson seems to just go for low color, and a blown out sky through the day scenes (sunlight entering windows has a glow of pure white)...quite an authentic look of 70's film. I guess it's costume design as well. i dunno... sometimes i'll increase my iris and think "man, that looks so 70s"....it could just be that simple.

I'm shooting some skateboarders today if it doesn't rain. Will give these settings a try.

Ha ha, rained like hell, not much in the way of footage. But I did try the preset anyway. The colours seem very natural, but I prefer to set the gamma to Normal because Cine1 makes the image a couple of stops darker. Cine1 might be OK for a brighter day but I find it's not as natural as the normal setting.

Richard

The ultimate XHA1 preset.

EXPLANATION

The Trend:
When we use high end digital cameras, sporting more than 10bit, high res, no compression 4:4:4 color space, we want to shoot with few contrast, in order to correct it during the post production process.

The Exception:
With highly compressed HDV cameras featuring only 8 bit the trick above can't be done without affecting the quality drastically, because the camera only uses few of the 8 bits available to describe the image, obtaining banding and resulting in a heavily deteriored footage if color corrected.

The Solution
Creating a preset that uses the most bits possible, with REAL BLACKS AT 0 IRE, and that can be used without any CC

Here is it:
http://www.vimeo.com/1768429

VISION02

This preset sports high contrast, 0 IRE blacks, less banding and better SN ratio.

lets say you shot with several different presets, but, you so happen to forget which ones you used. Is there a way to find out?
