Odyssey7Q To Record FS700 4K RAW

Thank you for your answer Mitch !

As some other members stated, I believe the camera buffers it before outputting the footage at a conventional framerate, so in theory it should be possible to record it via the OD7Q.

If so, it wouldn't even need a firmware update, just put the OD7Q in 4K RAW recording (maybe be careful and disable the rec trigger), shoot the scene and wait for the camera to empty the buffer (if it's approximately 4sec at 120fps it would equal to 20sec at 24fps)

This way, wouldn't even we have both, regular footage at 24fps AND 120fps recorded on the OD7Q ?

Mitch, can you please test this with your and prove if I'm right ? Thanks !

Even if this is true, Gene, the free version is limited to 1 GPU. I think, by the time I'm processing 4K, having access to multiple GPU's becomes pretty important otherwise processing will grind to fractions of a frame per sec.

Good point, but I guess beggars like me can't be choosers :)

It's crazy though because even with 1 GPU, Resolve Lite renders HD clips so much faster than After Effects.

In all honesty though, I can't see myself using 4K RAW that much except for certain types of shots, so the transcoding won't be a huge issue except in certain, limited instances.

You and the others are correct.

Ladies & Gentlemen (Are there any ladies here? It would be nice. But I digress.)

Ladies & Gentlemen, with the upcoming Feb. Firmware Update, the Odyssey7Q will be able to accept and record all forms of 4K RAW output from the FS700. This includes the 4K 120p "burst" mode played out from the camera's buffer.

Simply. Awesome. Knocked it out of the park.

So in summary, once the Feb firmware is released, the Odyssey will be able to cope with everything that the FS700 throws at it? That's now way beyond my initial expectations!!

Forgive me for throwing back to some of the less sexy features, but any news on shuttle controls for playback?

No questions really, just wanted to chime in and congratulate and thank you for the dedicated and brilliant work guys!

At this point you will have to go through Resolve. But this may change soon...

Still wondering what the background to this post is. A lot of people have been speculating about support for DNG in FCPX for a while now and I think there was an assumption it was going to be included in 10.1. Anything new?

er.. Adobe native support which was already announced for the FW update

FCP X support would be a real smash but as DNG isn't supported at all up to now it's not a question of 7Q compatibility.

Well, looks like I'm ordering the 7Q this week. This is fantastic news! This will future proof the FS700 without breaking our poor owner/operator wallets.

Right, but was curious as Olof was referring cryptically to FCPX. Just wondering if he had any inside dope, which is not beyond the realms of possibility seeing as he's an industry insider, based in the States as well as the person (in the correspondence I've had) Dan Keaton defers to in all things FCPX.

I said all I can say or I would have to kill you...

You may read this as at some point support is coming according to my understanding. Nothing official, and totally deniable.
