Odyssey7Q To Record FS700 4K RAW

Sorry, wasn't trying to start a fingernail biting or panic attack:-). I just saw that he posted the topic on the 17th, so 11 days before deadline. I imagine they have it completed if they are posting that close to deadline and releasing awesome information. I wanted to know so I could actively pursue getting a unit, because until 4k was available I wasn't interested.

I'm just thinking here and what I realized is how lucky we are as fs700 owners. I'll be the first to say, Sony has been pretty vague at times and the Sony 4k solution has been sort of a let down. There was a point were I was frustrated. But it's safe to say Sony has redeemed themselves and I couldnt be happier. When I first bought the camera (1) I was able to hook it up to my pix 240 and get 422, cool (2) then got the firmware update with S-logII, wow (3) added the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 to my arsenal, nice (4) and now we have the ability to record RAW, HFR, high bit depth with an amazing monitor in a terrific form factor, OMG! All thanks to CD and their amazing product. I'm not a psychic but its what I envisioned when I first got the camera almost a year and a half ago, thanks to Mitch, Andy and the good folks at Abelcine NYC. It's the camera that keeps on giving and will be excellent for quite sometime. I couldn't be happier and I'm very grateful for it. It's nice knowing other fs700 owners who may have felt frustrated at times finally get what they deserve. Last thing, I envision that the fs700 will surprise the masses in the same fashion as the patched GH2 did in the filmmaking community. It may end up being one of those cameras that are an anomaly and won't be duplicated in the next few cycles. It has the F5 sensor and now Raw 4k, HFR to the Qdyssey 7Q , I think its gonna surpise a lot of people, me especially. Im looking forward to it...4k,2k,1080p (444) here we come!! Cheers everyone :)

+1

And now i think it the most complete camera on the market for the price.. We got HD 24p, 60p, 120fps 240fps h264 or 2k RAW and next week HD 10 Bit 422 Popular codec, 4k raw 24p 30p and 4 sec 120 fps. In couple of month 4k Popular codec. Awesome!!

I have a feeling it will be before the 28th, I dont think they'll leave it to the very last second but who knows. Hopefully we get a nice surprise this weekend! :)

Does anyone know, will the 7Q take an SD signal in to monitor? I have something with a standard composite video output that I want to monitor on the 7Q. Is it possible to do so? Sorry I know this isn't the sexiest question with all this 4k stuff coming about ;) but just need it for something quick and hoping it will work.

Thanks

I'm sure Mitch has an official answer... but judging from my unit, it's got SDI and HDMI inputs, which are digital. So you'll need some sort of Analog to SDI converter, like this from BlackMagic.

The analog inputs are still BNC connectors (same as an SDI cable), so you'd want to go to RadioShack and pick up some RCA to BNC adapters. Then you connect analog device composite out to RCA/BNC adapter, into BlackMagic converter, then SDI out from the converter into the 7Q.

At least that's what I would do, based on what I know.

Really really doubt it. It doesn't even take 720p at the moment, and there are only digital inputs for video, SDI and HDMI. Composite video would need a whole other I/O connector and board to handle analog video and I'm glad they didnt waste weight, space, and money adding that in there :P

If I had known 20 years ago, with my first Avid (TV channel) and his hard disk of 9 GB as a shoes box, I was going to record 4K RAW (16.5GB/min : 2 shoes boxes/min) in 20 years, with a Sigma 18-35 1.8, FS700 240 fps HD, 120fps 4K, I would not have believed it. For "only" 10 000€ . A great - technological - period, isn't it ?

No composite in.

In the future we plan to support SD-SDI signals, but never a composite signal. You can get a converter box to change composite to SDI, but that's an added expense.

You should totally be interested! 2k Raw is fantastic! I agree with Marino. Us fs700 users are damn lucky to have the 7Q option! Even in its current initial firmware, it has brought a whole new level to my productions that I would not even have dreamed of being able to afford 1 year ago. When i edit and grade this footage now, I constantly find myself marveling at the image on screen. 4k is going to be incredible, but its also going to be an injesting, storage, editing and backup nightmare. Don't believe the only merit to that fs700 upgrade we all sent our cameras away for was to get 4k out of it. Its so much more.
