Odyssey7Q February 2014 Firmware Update

Also I've hardly used my 7Q and the "screen-protector" seems to get scratched or scuffed very easily even by brushing up against soft materials like my padded case... Seems like a very poor design since I would take it off and just not use it but it has all the button and input labels and I need those. If it's going to be such a flimsy screen decal, CD should really consider shipping every unit with a whole bunch of extras or providing alternative stickers that label the buttons/inputs without covering the screen. Why not just make these things with the labels engraved or printed so you dont need the filmsy screen protector?

Ok I lied, I thought they were scratches/scuffs on the screen protector but after scrubbing a bit harder with some cleaning fluid they came off. I swear they looked like scratches in the plastic. Still a little concerned the screen protector might be a bit vulnerable though.

If you lose power while updating it will go into some recover firmware that then updated to what you have on the ssd, not sure if this is usable/bootable, but you can update it. I accidentally unplugged mine while it was updating

Also, nyvz, it's pretty simple to say "no don't update" after a successful update and then format the SSD. Maybe CD could program the 7Q to ignore an update file if the system version matches the update file. But to auto-wipe the update file off the SSD would be annoying for people who own multiple SSDs or if a rental house needs to update a large number of units.

Yes it is quite avoidable if you happen to know the behavior but it is surprisingly easy to accidentally get stuck in a firmware update. It was not obvious that it would run the update again automatically on inserting the ssd. it happened to me because I assumed it would only run on boot and so I inserted the ssd to format it but didn't stare at the 7q while it was counting down or so as it does when you insert an ssd, and it kept counting down because it said it had to re-init the ssd and count down another 30sec. Why not just run on boot only or remove the update folder after running?

I thoroughly recommend westside av's sun hood. It's the best screen protector out there in my opinion (the hard vinyl lip that you screw into the odyssey...never take mine off.)

I did quickly pick up the 7q the other day by the bottom so that my thumb was on the front bottom of the shipped screen protector plate and to my surprise it very easily pushed in! I freaked out and pushed it back level at the top and everything seems okay. Gave me a fright though!

I managed to do exactly the same, my thumb brushed the OK button when I went to pick it up.

A little bit frustrating, but it's a mistake I'll only make once!

Is the whole CD team at NAB? Including software engineers? Hope they're coding between talking to customers - and in the bar! Might make for some interesting code ;)

The whole team is not here, but a significant portion. And the entire group that would collate and release information. It will happen soon.

When recording 4k2hd Odyssey capture separate files of size 4 GB (2:55 min.). It should be like that?

Yes that's the limitation of FAT32 - just use the CD file combiner app to copy and combine files - it's really simple and quick :)

Although, Mitch - would be good to have some kind of percentage done and data rate readout in the app - particularly if you're using it to COPY files, not just combine them.

Sure would be nice if CD added support for other filesystems.... exFAT, NTFS, HFS+... any of those or all of them :)

I would take other versions of ProRes, 4K ProRes, and several other features over alternate file systems, personally. :D
