Odyssey7 & Odyssey7Q Status Update

no problem. I think we all would just like to shoot pretty pictures now, and had enough of the technical drawbacks, and since its within reach and we can almost smell the freedom, its getting a bit unbearable to wait for what seems now to be only politics.

CMON APPLE!!!! give the certification already!!
or
CMON CD!!!! LEAVE OUT THE PRORES, GIVE US THE CORE UPDATES NOW (PLEASE) AND WE CAN WAIT FOR THE CODECS!!!

Doesn't look like there's anything coming today :( very disappointing

you say no one tricked us to wait - just look at CD's website about the timeframe they expect the 7 to come out - and that doesn't include the multiple phone calls to and from CD saying to hang in there - it's just around the corner - now I can't show you proof of that - but just click on the odyssey 7 link, then poke around the FAQ and it's clear they have done very little to update those of us who are waiting with accurate information hopping we just hang around long enough for them - and again - you didn't hear what they said directly to me on the phone!

whats funny is that you do not sound neutral - and you also make assumptions that are waaaay of the mark. You think I need the codecs, or the compression, and all that other stuff- and all I want is the damn focus assist - and I refuse to pay the extra money for the 7Q when all I want is the focus assist.

And why ANYONE would make apologies for a company that has not updated their information so that those of us who DID preorder could make a decision based on facts and not BS... which I am starting to believe is solely to string us along until they get the product out - because if we keep thinkings it's around the corner many of us will still be there for them - but if they admit that they are X number of months away they know they will loose customers - it's just like the frog in the boiling water- and slowly it gets worse and worse until it's boiling -

You say it's rare to compensate people who put deposits on innovative products when it's late

1. Boeing Aircraft
2. Acura NSX
3. Springfield armory AR15's
4. Hondajet
5. Airbus aircraft
6. F35 joint strike fighter
7. FreeFly Systems- Movi M5
8. Piaggio P180
9. Amazon and UPS for late delivery after guaranteed delivery cutoff during xmas
10.even pizza hut gives a discount if it's not there by the time they promised it

I could keep listing things but I am tired of the google search -

I think it is absolutely a good idea for CD to offer a discount to everyone who has a deposit on the odyssey 7 if not the q model. And I am not asking the fellow forum readers to decide if they should or shouldn't, i want CD to read what we are talking about and decide for themselves. I think it's would the the right thing for them to do. If not everyone- how about those of us who physically called them over and over again and they promised it was coming out in just a week or so.... starting in October and then November, then after Xmas, then after new year, then in a few weeks over and over again... it kept going on and on - and that is not the right way to treat someone who you want to sell something to - and who wants your product. If they said in Oct. - hey, you knw what, we don't' care about the 7 because we hope people give up and drop an extra grand for the q - and only after we are sure those people spent the extra money will we ship out the 7's...... I mean, why else would they not send out the 7? It has LESS innovation than the Q and it's all the same enclosure, screen, operating software, connectors -

So it is possible to leave a message for CD without a fanboy showing his unwavering support ?

If you want to post a message to CD without others posting their comments then don't post on a public forum! Send them an email. You seem to be suggesting that your thoughts are the only valid ones and that no one else has a right to express their opinions. What's more, calling people fan boys is pretty rude.

haha your list to prove that discounts on late delivery isn't rare includes a lot of hugely expensive aircrafts. Apples and oranges, my friend. If you need a monitor with peaking, buy a SmallHD.

They owe you nothing. I'm patiently awaiting the firmware update for the 7Q and I'm upset by the delays but to say I deserve some monetary credit or discount is absurd. Companies announce stuff all the time, delays happen, hell even cancellations happen after NAB announcements (Zacuto's plaZma light). Stop being a baby and go buy products that are actually out on the market already instead of complaining on the internet about being wronged by a product that doesn't exist yet.

Also, that list contains multi-million dollar/pound contracts that have late delivery penalties built in - so they're just not relevant to this issue.

Delivery of Firmware will not speed up a single second, even if we all jump up and down like little, angry dwarfs do. If you want reliable and proven products, a FS700 and an Odyssee7Q are the wrong choice right now. Buy a Sony F3 instead.

Remember the delays, until SONY released the Firmware v3 to unleash 4K output? And it took v3.01 to make it stable.

The delay is no surprise. Too many threads the same time and obtaing the certification in the last minute are no good friends for timely development. And it may not be over. Even with the any-day-out-now-Firmware, formerly Feb release, the setup still will not be mature. There are still important features missing like 4K recording to compressed codec and even, if these features become available, it is likely that we need more updates to finalize a chain-of-workflow.

So I would keep expectations at a realistic level.
C.D. has proven that it is a small and innovative company, getting access to Sony Raw data and Apple ProRes license. But they also get mixed up, if unforeseen happens. Running out of BNC connectors, missing Sony L-Series adapter plates, the Odyssee7 still on hold. So better be very delay-tolerant if you plan to become a custumer at early stage.

Wait six more months, and you get a reliable solution on stock.

Funny, I pictured this in my head while reading some of the posts then came across your post, lol. Well said

Can I connect F3 and FS700 and snd I get 10-Bit RGB 444 s-log from F3 and 2K Raw up to 25ps from FS700? I mean can I recorde both camcordes at time?

No and no.

To record 444 from the F3 we currently offer DPX recording. In compressed recording we have Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) up to 30p. We expect to have compressed recording of 444 in the future, including up to 60p, but that is not currently available.

Likewise the FS700 RAW signal is a very different one and needs to be processed very differently. You cannot send both signals into the Odyssey7Q simultaneously.

Currently Multi-Stream is for monitoring only. But both for this monitoring as well as our future Multi-Stream Recording capabilities, we will only support 422 HD signals up to 30p. Not 444 and not RAW, and certainly not both at the same time. Just too much information to process.

my odyssey 7Q came in yesterday, The build quality is amazing. my first OLED technology panel aswell. The blacks are really amazing, and on top of that , its touch screen too. I cannot wait to get the FS700 RAW next week and start shooting. I would like to see 4k 120FPS RAW in the next firmware if possible. Great job CD Team!!!

Chris

The best peaking options I have ever seen in a monitor are already fully functional in the O7Q...

I hate to say it but RTFM.

+1 ;-)

I played around with settings and actually I set it to High 60% Mid 50% Low 20% - any better experience from you guys?

Glad to hear it has the peaking function. I read on an earlier post that a disgruntled buyer was choosing the DP-7 because the peaking feature was critical to his purchase.
