Odyssey7 & Odyssey7Q Status Update

I certainly didn't take it as that. As far as I know, no one has said 4k needs additional certification?
No trust in Rejdmast?

It may be awhile. First a bug fix is going to come out - hopefully by the end of next week and then 4K ProRes. The new ProRes variant requires Apples approval so don't hold your breath.
Where did you get that info?
From an engineer at the booth.

I didn't say that and didn't think that either. I was going on what Mitch has said in this and other threads over the last few weeks.

With all resoect:
If you follow this forum, you should know the track record of forecasts and official statements.

For my ears, it sounds very likely that Apple requests certification for different levels of ProRes. We have learned, that proving compliance might show some hickups. Convergent Design has no obligation to clarify about their R+D process or the need of external approval. The mission will be accomplished as soon we are able to download the Firmware.

Well let's hope it doesn't take as long to get the certification if indeed it does need it

I'm not in the "know" but it seems to me that they don't need re-certification for other levels of Prores. Mitch mentioned just recently they won't need to be re-certified, and earlier on, when everyone was so mad about waiting past the release date, he stated that that would be the last time their firmware updates would rely on an external company's timeline. That was like 80000000 pages ago, so I'm not going to look for a quote, but it would lead me to believe they won't have to re-certify every time.

That's my two cents with no information... I've been impressed with CD. Cheers.

I read it as 50/60p prores didn't need recert, but didn't say that specifically about 4k prores. Would surprise me if 4k prores was recert. We'll see soon I guess :)

Old habits are hard to kill :)
They missed the Bugfix Firmware Release date, announced by Dan for last Tuesday.
And some announcements, scheduled for NAB 2014 seem also to be postponed.
And my dealer and I are still waiting for my unit in Germany. There is hope for a wave in April.
Will they fail again?

Old habits?

Come on boys. It's groundhog day.
Stop teasing empty promises.

Promise less and keep the energy focussed to reliable delivery.

Take care to set up stable business processes. You did not fix the tech spec error on the Athena announcement webpage and the blog (2 GB instead of 2 TB), e.g. Did you loose that info? What about the new website guy?

Make C.D. not seem to be an abbrevation for "constant delays", please.

You seem pretty pee'd off at not just CD but other users here :(
I can maybe understand that if you've still not received your unit. When did you order it?
Personally, I'm quite relaxed about the next updates as I have a killer monitor with superb 4K2HD recording :) everything else will be a bonus, particularly 4K.

I'm sure Mitch will put us straight but is still at NAB with poor wifi:

@Mitch_Gross: Someone pls post this: To all on DVXUSER seeking answers, pls understand that the wifi in our hotel sucks so I can't until I'm back home.

In the hotel, back from the insanity of NAB. If you have never been, it's really all-consuming.

I see that in my absence there's been a bit of activity. Let me try to clarify.

ProRes
Convergent Design is certified to use Apple ProRes 422(HQ) in HD on the Odyssey7, Odyssey7Q and Athena. We currently do so up to 30p and will soon do so up to 60p. Because we have received our certification I can openly and clearly say as much on this public forum.

We will soon have a 4K compressed codec.

Firmware Updates
There will be a firmware update very soon. Our firmware release schedule will no longer be held up by other organizations. This means that if there is something that depends on forces outside our control, we will no longer forecast when such features will be released. But there are other aspects to firmware updates, and we expect to have far less time between firmware releases in the future.

Dan Keaton honestly believed that the firmware update would happen in the next day or two when he gave that interview. But to properly launch a firmware update documentation must be written, the manual updated and all the Odyssey owners, dealers and interested & effected parties be notified. All of the people responsible for doing this work were busy working at the NAB convention. So I made the decision to delay the release until next week. Yup, the buck stops here. Mitch Gross decided to delay the release that we had not promised or scheduled and the team agreed.

Convergent Design does not want to do anything half-baked. We're human and sometimes we get so excited that we want to get it out ASAP but we need to do things the proper way. Y'all are just going to have to wait a few days. Please don't drive yourselves crazy thinking of what may or may not be in this release as it is a fairly minor one, with some small updates. But I do believe that there is some stuff in there that you will all enjoy. Soon.

Germany
Our European distributor, Symbiosis, had a number of key staff at NAB as well. They helped us in our booth as well as others and had a lot of other important business to attend to here at the show. Did I mention how big a deal NAB is? More than 100,000 people attend. I can imagine that this might put some delay into the works for their deliveries. I can tell you that much of the staff remaining at the Convergent Design office is occupied assembling, testing and shipping out Odyssey7Q product. We are shipping weekly and this includes to Europe. Frankly I asked if the Germany issue could be directly addressed as I sick of hearing about it.

Resolve
Gene, your color science issue is being addressed currently.

I hope I covered everything but it's after midnight here so hit me up with more questions if I missed anything. But I'll be traveling so don't expect to hear back right away.

Thanks Paul, I finally got thru! Frustrating.

Thanks for the update Mitch :)

As you mentioned you had certification specifically for ***HD*** prores, I'm guessing there is additional certification needed for 4K. Sounds to me reading between the lines that this is in progress.
