Odyssey7 & Odyssey7Q Status Update

I finally got my O7Q yesterday, Woohoo! I shall now progress from complaining about having to wait for my recorder to complaining about having to wait for 4K, compressed recording etc etc. :cheesy:

Speaking of which... Are things still on track for mid-Feb?

Thank you.

Odyssey 7Q's in stock at Westside A V.

Order on our website or contact us directly, accessories are in stock as well.

info@westsideav or call 603.383.9283.

This might not reflect the real world, but looks like there is an uneven distribution of these recorders. There are stores in the US and Australia with stock and then lot's of people from Europe with backorders for months that look like will never get filled.

Congrats Colin! I am sure you will have already now a lot of benefits in 2K RAW!
Could you please do me a favour and tell me where did get it from? I am still looking
for a battery plate - and maybe they have still one for me? Thanks in advance

Maybe Europeans who got it don't post as frequent over twitter or in forums, but if you "look around" there are plenty of units over the world, few are in Europe.
I'm still waiting for mine and the last information I got was that the distributor wouldn't ship any until the new firmware is released.

Probably they tried to distribute equally around the world rather than fulfill the existing orders...
I may be wrong, but surely to Convergent Design the distributor is their customer, we are then the customer of the disti, end customer to CD. If a disti places and pays for an order would CD know if that's to meet preorders or to have as stock. End customers may have ordered and backed out, so a distis stock becomes available.

Videoguys in Melbourne just posted on facebook that they have 7q's in stock. Jump on it if you want one. Shipped in 2 days to me in Brisbane.

really? Customer is king - and if the King wants it now? Strange behaviour (maybe just a lame excuse)
I asked for shipment prior to the firmware update so I could update it myself, the dealer said that there is no guarantee that its only a firmware that is causing the SSD's error (and others errors), so they need to be sure its not hardware issue prior to shipment so that they don't need to handle warranty returns.
If this is true, then it might be a nightmare to many current users, if its not true, maybe CD should call EMEA and get things sorted properly in Europe.
What i know for sure is that I'm delivering lower quality AVCHD images instead of delivering proper footage to my clients, while I wait for the next delay announcement. (really hope not)

Btw, it's almost February! :)

Dan Keaton on Dvinfo : "We will not have the DNxHD codec ready for our February 2014 firmware release. Our plans are to add this later this year, and it may be near the end of 2014."

this is so endless sad ... CD u have to do some things right in near future because u are loosing big trust.

Loosing? More like lost.

I will cancel my preorder and wait for the needed features to actually arrive now. In the meantime ill just have to waste my money renting better camera options when in need.

Just to clarify: I am absolutely only buying OQ7 for a 10 bit codec and a 12 bit raw codec with managable filesizes, from the FS700.

Unfortunately, I think DNxHD is just a casualty of the numbers game, since Pro-Res has the upper hand in-terms of users. With that said, the firmware update needs to come ASAP. It's so behind at this point and I just want my 7Q to not flicker anymore.

I'm afraid I have to totally disagree with this assessment. ProRes is available for recording via Mac's, only. There's a whole community of PC users, not to mention that DNxHD is the mainstay of Avid's Media Composer. I'm not sure what limited community you work in Gene, but, DNxHD is certainly alive and well and AFAIK, preferable over ProRes. Both formats support 444, ProRes is a variable bit rate codec, while DNxHD is a fixed rate. Each has an applicability and value.

Well that is disappointing. I wasn't going to rush into this purchase anyways, but I thought these updates would be ready sooner rather then later. I just spent $400 cdn on the 4K upgrade, I probably would held off had I known the wait was going to be that much longer. CD communication is great on this site but this product was prematurely launched in my opinion. Oh well, back to my life in AVCHD......

Ummm.. Is that for dnxhd only or is he talking about pro-res also? If so thats really not cool at all... They pretty much promised something at launch to push it to early 2014 and then they come with this...

What is on the map for the feb update? When can we expect pro-res? True 10-bit compressed?
